Ottawa REDBLACKS History

The Ottawa REDBLACKS are a professional football team in the Canadian Football League (CFL). The REDBLACKS are the third CFL team to call Capital City their home, and upon their founding in 2014, ended Ottawa’s nearly decade-long run without a professional football team. In 2016, the team brought the Grey Cup back to Ottawa for the first time in 40 years, becoming the fastest Canadian-based expansion franchise to win a championship in a North American professional sports league with three seasons played. Ottawa has also claimed three East Division titles, in 2015, 2016 and 2018. Across its first ten seasons, the REDBLACKS roster has featured two Most Outstanding Canadian Award winners, one Most Outstanding Player and one Most Outstanding Defensive Player.

Ottawa REDBLACKS at The Stadium at TD Place

The Stadium at TD Place Stadium has been the home of the Ottawa REDBLACKS since 2014, though its history dates back to the city’s first CFL team, the Ottawa Rough Riders. Opened in 1908 as a stadium surrounding a playing field built in the 1870s, the former Lansdowne Park has hosted matches for football, soccer and rugby as well the Summer Olympics and outdoor hockey exhibitions. The 24,000-seat venue hosted its seventh Grey Cup championship game, and first as TD Place Stadium, at the 105th matchup in 2017. At home games for the Ottawa REDBLACKS, fans can cheer along with the team’s lumberjack mascot, Big Joe.

    Obstructed view

by Tlo on 2023-11-08The Stadium at TD Place - Ottawa

I purchased tickets in the first row that I thought would be a good view of the game, however was extremely disappointed. There was a security guard who stood in front of our section the entire game blocking most of the field. In addition, he did not stand still and went back and forth causing more of a distraction. When he was told that we couldn’t see, he replied “this is my post”. However, when he went on break, another stood in a spot that allowed us to see better. This should have been disclosed at the time of purchase for those of us who are not familiar with the layout and travelled 3 hours to see the game. It was a truly awful experience!

    Great time

by Superteach on 2023-10-31The Stadium at TD Place - Ottawa

Had a great time at the game. A great facility. Clean, easy to find seats, good food and drinks. Unfortunately after the game we had difficulty finding a taxi or Uber. Buses all said "We're hiring"so couldn't find #5 bus. Had to walk to Kettleman's Bagels and call to get a taxi.

Nice stadium that shows it's age.

by Rob on 2023-10-31The Stadium at TD Place - Ottawa

The food vending in the North stands is terrible - not enough and no room to move. The rows are too wide therefore the stairs are very busy and your view is often blocked. It is a nice setting though.

    Redblacks game

by laurent on 2023-10-03The Stadium at TD Place - Ottawa

Great stadium, really a nice place to host football games! Please make more announcements during the game about penalties, visitor team's plays. More music to create more energy would be nice too. 12$ pizza slice is overpriced common at 6 slices per pizza can we really argue that a medium pizza does not worth 72$? I am ready to pay 12$ for a large beer but pizza was overpriced nothing to argue here.

    Great time, poor seats

by Matt on 2023-10-03The Stadium at TD Place - Ottawa

The seats we were in were directly in front of a large metal rail and as a result our view was partially blocked for approx 2/3 of the field. Also a security guard stood in front of the railing blocking our view further for the first quarter. He must have figured out we were having a tough time seeing and moved. Would be nice if the obstructed view was noted when purchasing tickets. The game environment was great and overall we really enjoyed my fist CFL game. Concessions were pricy but that’s to be expected. All and all, looking forward to our next game (In different seats 😉). Seats were section PP row six on the aisle.

    Good

by Tammy on 2023-10-03The Stadium at TD Place - Ottawa

My friend and I parked at City Hall as it is free for the Redblacks game and took the free shuttle to go to Landsdowne one hour before the kickoff. Unfortunately they had so many traffic for the game that we decided to walk for the rest. When we arrived at the doors, it took times to pass the security so unfortunately we weren’t able to enjoy the promotion before the kickoff. Finally, we were very pleased by our seat (row 3, section B) but the inconvenience was that people walked front of us during the game. Overall for the price, we enjoyed the experience but some improvements could be made to make it more enjoyable.

    Disappointing

by JB655321 on 2023-10-03The Stadium at TD Place - Ottawa

What was once a fun outing (going to see a live football game at TD Place) is now an expensive and mostly frustrating one. First, North side concession stands ran out of food by halftime. It was undersdandable in 2014 when the team was just getting going, but now? Unacceptable. Second, security and TD place personnel took no action to intervene with those who somehow got into the stadium with manual marine air horns, which are clearly prohibited per TD place policy. My family's experience was ruined by the aggravating sound and lack of care by personnel. We will be thinking long and hard before going back.

    Garbage

by Ben on 2023-10-03The Stadium at TD Place - Ottawa

Cfl is terrible but I have it a shot this year. Worst quality of football I’ve ever seen. Ottawa sucks and everything about the experience sucks. Over priced , terrible entertainment value. I’ll never go to a game again.

    Disappointing

by Ray on 2023-09-27TD Place Stadium - Ottawa

I paid 150$ per ticket to have great seats for my wife and I. Get there and people are sitting in our seats. They move but don’t have tickets for the section I am in. There are about 10-12 people around us that have 25$ seats and are squatting the higher price seats until, and if, someone arrives with the correct seats. I had checked before the game and there was no one in front, back or side. But they all fill up 15 min into the game by people who have bought cheap seats and enjoy taking advantage of the system. Very disappointing that there is NO control on the seating. Question becomes why bother paying for premium seats when nobody else does…
