A bittersweet celebration of Kate McGarrigle

by McGarriglelover on 2011-06-03Town Hall - New York City

As a diehard McGarrigle Sisters fan, I can't say enough about this wonderful evening. I've been a huge fan of these women since their first record in '75, and their music has been a constant in my life's journey. Such a talented and diverse group of artists we were privileged to see and enjoy- with performances featuring such highlights as the dramatic vocals of Rufus, the amazing pipes of Martha, the otherwordly singing of Antony, the touching tribute from EmmyLou Harris.... the list goes on and on... Teddy Thompson, Krystle Warren, Norah Jones, etc. etc. Each performer offered a unique rendition of Kate (& Anna's) beautiful and often heart-rending lyrics. And of course the McGarrigles' longtime backup band was superb as usual. That was the bittersweet part of the evening - realizing that this would probably be the last time we would be able to enjoy a McGarrigle Sisters concert. A stellar evening nonetheless. I look forward to reliving it again when the documentary is released..

So many talented people on stage!

by CanuckBarb on 2011-05-26Town Hall - New York

Far surpassed our expectations. Krystle Warren singing kate's song gave me goosebumps. Close 2nd was Martha singing the finale ...about Kate's old flame who meets Martha as an adult for the first time. Martha wished outloud that she didn't have to sing the lead in this song as she had always sang it as back up to her mom.
