A Night with Janis Joplin is magical!

by BroadwayLady on 2017-11-07The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - Windsor

Splendido! For those who appreciate Janis Joplin's music, this production is a must see. Along with the music, the intermittent dialogue left me feeling like I had actually been given the privilege of getting to know the 'off stage' Janis Joplin. Mary Bridget Davis' portrayal of Joplin was electric. Hats off to the cast and musicians as well. A Night with Janis Joplin deserves the five star rating I gave it!

    A Throwback Wednesday

by NdnCarMan on 2016-04-14Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Didn't know what to expect but wasn't disappointed. Was NOT just a tribute band thing. Bridgette Davies has a remarkable handle on her character, performs those golden oldies with passion and flair. Great renditions. I was transported through time back to a day, long long ago, when I was a 13 year old kid. I'm lucky I don't use a cane yet, unlike many of the other audience members, but I was reminded that my generation are now the old ones and Joplin is an icon from a wonderful era in world history. The Mona Lisa of rock and blues. And the performances of her "Holding Company" wasn't bad and the inspirations behind her songs and performances, all African American women, was a welcome addition to the play. Where would we all be without Odetta, Aretha Franklin, Etta James and the others. I was able to put my socks back on by myself after the show. I hate musicals by the way, not much of a theatre fan either. But this was a great show. I highly recommend it to audiences of all generations.

    Excellent performance

by bluesygary on 2016-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Mary Bridget Davies does a super Joplin impression. Her voice, mannerisms - bang on. A great review of Joplin's music and musical influences. Thankfully, it did not focus on her early demise. Backup and secondary vocalists were very good, though I thought the musicians were a little lacking.

Great music. All of the singers have fabulous voices well suited to the characters they portrayed, especially Janis!

    Back down Memory Lane

by SouthernComfort on 2016-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

I first saw Janis on the Festival Express in 1970 and have respected her talent and styling ever since. Janis and my friend July chatted on the train and it was such a inspiration. This show brought back memories and warm feelings. I had some Southern Comfort after the show to keep it mellow.

Kelly's McIntyre NO, Mary Bridget Jones YES

by Teddybare on 2016-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

I attended A Night with Janis Joplin to see Mary Bridget Jones perform. I had heard so many great things about MBJ and YouTube videos which featured her sold me to see MBJ performing as Janis Joplin, of whom I am a great fan. I bought my ticket ONLY to see MBJ. Mary Bridget Jones did not perform. . If it were not for the singers who represented Simone, Odetta, Aretha, the Chantelles, Bessie, etc the show would have been a bust. Those other singers were very good. Kelly McIntyre performed the role of Janis Joplin. She put her heart into her performance but it didn't cut it for me. Piece of My Heart was very good. Had not heard of Kelly till she walked onto the stage. I had difficulty letting go of my disappointment.

janis Joplin show was amazing, big voices!

by brenspen on 2016-04-13Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

We really enjoyed this show. The lead singer playing Janis had an extremely strong voice and was amazing. The supporting caste from the band to the singers were all stunning. Big voices, great music, so much energy and a southern comfort (Janis' choice of drink) and you can't go wrong. A wonderful, completely emotional evening out!
