    The best !

by MikieB on 2014-05-14Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

No doubt, Bela Fleck is the best 5 string banjo player around today. His wife Abigail is up there too. The magic occurs when they play together. They are so 'in tune' with each other that it is like listening to some new type of instrument, ten strings that ring and resonate with overtones and harmonics we have never heard before. Add Washburn's lyrical, powerful voice, and now Fleck's as well, and you have a magical combination of sound that goes into realms of musical expression that is totally unique. And the overall tone of the couple's humorous banter - I could never say enough to adequately describe the experience my wife and I felt at this concert. It was superb!

    Not to be missed

by klaw on 2014-05-13Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

Bela Fleck is such an accomplished musician that a person should make every effort to see him with whatever musician or group he is playing with. A banjo has never sounded so classy as when Fleck performs. Not to be outdone, his spouse and banjo partner has a tremendous voice. Her numbers from her Chinese experiences or performances were very impressive.

    Béla and Abigail are amazing

by terpsmcgerps on 2014-05-13Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

I was excited when I got the tickets, having been a Béla Fleck fan for years, but was curious to see what the difference would be with both him and his wife on stage. It was fantastic. On stage they exude a sort of homey comfort that made the crowd, or at least us, feel as if we were guests in their home. The musicianship was phenomenal, with only a handful of banjos and Abigail's (and even a bit of Béla's) voice, they explored everything from Appalachian bluegrass, Béla's newgrass sounds and even a few treats from Abigail's extensive travels through traditional Chinese music. The stage banter was lovely, and very believable from a husband and wife with a one year old baby. A lovely evening. Would go again as many times as I could.
