Afro-Cuban All Stars Tickets

The musicians were very capable & energetic & clearly enjoyed what they were doing. However, for us they were way too loud for the venue & seemed to screem rather than sing. Their repertoire seemed repetitive. Unfortunately for them they were having a difficult time with their mics & that was disappointing for them & us. They did have one number towards the end of the show that got lots of folks up dancing & that was encouraging, but alas we were really disappointed with the concert.

An excellent evening. The band took an unscheduled intermission to deal with some equipment issues but all was forgotten when they came back to the stage. We've seen them before and we'll see them again. I recommend this band to anyone who likes afro-cuban music and music in general.

Amazing music, great Cuban beat! All of the musicians were great-including the singers as they danced.

Great musicians but the concert changed into a rhythmic frenzy which inhibited the display of their talents.

This was a concert that I went into pretty much blind. I know and like the Buena Vista Social Club album that I have, but only Juan De Marcos was on that album from this touring band, and even then on less than half the cuts, as conductor or backup vocalist. The turnout at the concert must have been a bit disappointing, with the main floor of the Playhouse 3/4 full. The band took the stage and warmed up the night within two or three songs with their infectious percussion and constant motion. Juan was an affable host, and the songs, although I didn't know most of them, were all well played and excellent platforms for some great solos by the talented players. Particularly outstanding were the 3 trumpet players and the piano player. Where does Cuba get all the great trumpet players? The charts were all interesting and tight, and each trumpet player could either purr the low notes or scream the highs at will. Worth the price of admission alone.

The Afro Cuban All-Stars were absolutely amazing! The music of "alegria"!

Not only incredible musicianship (horns, singing, piano and rhythym section) but great audience rapport. The entire crowd was dancing for the last half of the concert. On stage right on time, very professional in everything, Juan de Marcos gives his All Stars many chances to shine (even his wife!) and they are a group of very talented musicians. When the big guy starts singing, you will not be able to stay in your seat! Lots of fun and lots of great Cuban music, some of it classic, some of it verging on jazz, very well played. More than worth the ticket price for just the music and very entertaining as well! And the band obviously loves and feels the music.
