    Schweet

by Indyvknife on 2010-03-24The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Awesome forever was this concert, but they should have played "Playground Love" in the encore, even though "Sexy Boy" was sick

    AIR / love

by silent on 2010-03-24The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Caught AM open for the French duo AIR at the Phoenix last night in Toronto. AM was fantastic, played for 45 min. 3 piece, percussion, AM on various string instruments and a keyboardist/synthesizer player (Brent Bixby) AM was great and a refreshing organic sound to AIR's heavy beat and electronic knob tweaking. AM were at their best when they slid into psychedelic jam sequences. The band came out in the house after the show and mingled amongst the crowd, very cool laid back and friendlyThis CD is very listenable on the first listen as the melodies, vocal and soundscape is easy on the ears AIR was great, live drums and bass added to the tsunami sized wall of sonic electronica. Truly one of the few artistic masters of the Moog, Korg MS-20, Wurlitzer and last but not least the Vocoder. Video projections were nice and low fi by today's standards Sexy Boy was great The French dead pan delivery to the audience in between numbers set the air of the occasion….

    Air was awesome

Great show, great vibe from the crowd, and a really tight performance altogether. The light/media show was simple yet effective.

    boring!

by ashleyessssss on 2010-03-24The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

you're better off listening to air in your dark basement with a light machine flickering. live, they were uninspiring and lacked any form of enthusiasm. they just stood there behind their keyboards and guitars and smiled. there was no audience interaction aside from the occasional, "merci, we love you!" it was hands down the worst live performance i have ever seen. i would NOT recommend this show to anyone looking for an entertaining concert. yes, they sounded great and musically they've got it together, but there was nothing compelling or memorable about the concert.

    Headphone Music At Its Best

by JerkInTheCorner on 2010-03-24The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Having never seen AIR live I was a little unsure as to what I could expect live. The sound they carry on their albums is so full and diverse I didn't think they'd be able to pull it off live. They did. I consider AIR to be a headphone band. Last night they took that unique sound of theirs and displayed it live. I was impressed. While the music was fantastic, there was a lot lacking in their on-stage presence. The lighting was minimal although effective. Most of the time it was just animations projected on to the back of the stage with some standard lights but as far as the band members putting on a show, they more or less just stood at their spots and played what they were supposed to play. Which is all you can ask for I guess, I don't know, I was expecting a bit more energy from the guys. The set itself was great. They played fantastic tracks from all across their catalog. The start of the show was pretty "Love 2" heavy, not surprisingly, but they played great stuff from Moon Safari, Talkie Walkie, 10,000 Hz and even a few from Pocket Symphony. Seeing them in a venue like the Phoenix was the right place. Anything bigger and the feel of the show would have been lost. A smaller venue would have been amazing, but I think that can be said for just about any band. Overall, I really enjoyed the show. I'd probably check them out again after they release a new album but I wouldn't go see them twice on the same tour. I have not looked at past set lists from this tour but they strike me as a band that doesn't really mix it up a lot from night to night. I could be wrong though.

    wrong venue

by tunes on 2010-03-24The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

While the music was fun (although a little flat) the venue was definitely the wrong one for this kind of event. I would have much preferred to be sitting on a comfortable lounger listening to this chill tunes than having to stand the whole time. The performance seemed accurate enough to the original but was quite cold and distant and not original enough for a live performance.
