About

As the man behind some of Lady Gaga’s biggest hits and a featured artist on over 35 Billboard Hot 100 singles, Senegalese-raised R&B singer/producer Akon is one of the most ubiquitous – and unique – artists in contemporary hip hop. With 2013 the release of “Angel,” the David Guetta-produced lead single from his upcoming fourth studio album Stadium, Akon scored another hit and signaled a turn towards an increasingly dance-oriented sound. “Angel” follows the success of 2009’s chart-topping Freedom, which added to his already-impressive solo career with hits like “Right Now (Na Na Na)” and “I’m So Paid (feat. Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy).” Splitting time between New Jersey and Senegal as a child, Akon developed a unique musical sensibility inspired by West African musical traditions East Coast hip hop. A singer and multi-instrumentalist, he attracted the attention of label execs in 2003 with “Lonely,” which would go on to be a No. 1 single from his 2004 debut Trouble. 2006 follow-up Konvicted proved even more successful, earning Akon several Grammy nominations and his first No. 1 on the Hot 100 with “I Wanna Love You (feat. Snoop Dogg).” Ticket buyers rave about Akon’s positive energy and special guest-filled live concerts, while looking forward to the upcoming release of his fourth studio album Stadium.

    Akon is a icon

by nik on 2023-11-18REBEL - Toronto

Akon put on a really good show! He was on stage for a lot longer than I expected. He played so many of his popular older songs and sounded really good. I also really liked the venue it wasn’t too packed and the staff was really nice and helpful.

The concert was awesome, Akon is a great performer and I was so pleased to see him but he was almost 3 hours late we were tired waiting but he did compensate for his tardiness.

    by Q’s on 2023-11-18REBEL - Toronto

Awesome show and great performance can’t wait to go to the next one! Came onto stage on time too! At one point the sound got cut out….and one of the bar tenders was going to overcharge me for the WRONG order…..and waited 10 whole minutes to just get 2 drinks!….other than that good show and was pleased.

Concert was scheduled for 8pm and Akon did not come on stage until 12:25 pm. He only performed for 25-30 minutes tops. Karl Wolf did not come on stage until 11:30pm and had a crappy DJ come on stage after him instead of the main act which was Akon. All night from 8-11:30 was a DJ on stage playing very very old songs none of which pleased any one who I knew at the venue. I saw two children about 10-11 years of age and while I would not bring a child to a Karl Wolf/Akon concert I felt bad for these kids at 11pm one I saw had bloodshot eyes from staying awake clearly past his bedtime and sitting for hours waiting on the performer to come out. I know more than one person who left (one of which was a friend of mine who had to leave to pick her daughter up at midnight from a babysitter so she was pissed off she paid to see Akon and drove from a city 30 minutes outside of Regina only to not even see him perform. When she contacted the DJ hosting the event for a refund, he himself said Akon did not even leave his hotel to arrive at the venue til 10:30 pm. Myself and a friend drove 2 hours for this concert and got there at 7 only to wait 4 1/2 hours for it to begin. Very unimpressed. Then to have the main act perform for 25 minutes was a joke. I go to about 5 concerts a year from Bruno Mars - Kanye West, etc. all of which perform for 2-3 hours (3 hours was clearly Kanye West). No one drives hours or pays almost $100 (or more) for a ticket to see someone perform for 25-30 minutes. What a disappointment.

Akon was good when he finally came out

    by Stanglady1 on 2015-09-20Orr Centre - Regina

The doors opened late and it was slow to get in the doors as they were patting everyone down and searching pockets and purses - seemed a bit extreme. The opening act was a local artist that needs more practice as his background music was louder than he was, and when he paused to breath the music and singing kept going. The next few acts were not much better. Then we sat and listened to a DJ for about 2+ hrs. At 1130 Karl Wolfe came out sang three songs, and then BAE came out, then another break of about 20 minutes. After 1230 am Akon came out. We stayed for three songs and left, as we were too tired to stay. They removed a lot of people for being high or intoxicated, but they had an open bar for the entire concert, and with no entertainment except a DJ many people chose to drink.
