Stunning!

Expectations were high - Gershwin's timeless music plus dancing. Expectations met? Not at all. Poor story line, boring monologues. Linguistics in songs did not match slang and contemporary English of 21st century. Had to leave after the first act. Sometimes being a musician does not help. Glad that they are closing. Should have happened much sooner. Design set was not bad at all, though predictable after a few scenes. Dancing moves are trivial and typical with American ballet. Hard to find actors that are dancing well and singing well. Dancing was OK, but singing... Mediocre at best, how they say. Left with bitter sense of time and money wasted.
The performers in this interpretation of a classic film are a very special version of the traditional "triple-threat" - classical ballet dancers who very credibly sing and act. A couple of the lesser characters were not as strongly acted (Madame - played by understudy - and Monsieur Baurel had accents that travelled around more than one European country). The choreography was varied and the dancing was great - I hardly missed Gene Kelly & Leslie Caron at all! The scenery and costume design (award winning) are beautiful - so much setting and mood is created simply with light. Wonderful show!
The talent of the dancers and the production values are stunning...but make no mistake, this is a ballet disguised as a musical...based on other reviews, was expecting more dancing than singing but this is Rudolf Nureyev and not Gene Kelly...
I really enjoyed this show. The actors were great (Leanne Cope is amazing in her part!), Gershwin's music is very nice, and the old Palace Theater is lovely. Highly recommended!
The play was awesome with great dancing and just all round wonderful performances by the entire cast!!! Great show!!! Not to be missed!!
I recently saw An American in Paris while in New York and it was fabulous. The first few minutes start off slow, but than it pulls you in with its story line and dazzles you with the beauty of the costumes and dancing!
Don't hesitate - this was delightful! Talented actors and dancers in a warm classic.
This is an elegant reinterpretation of the film into a new Broadway show. The leads are ballet dancers and the dancing is incredible. The highlight of act II is the ballet of Gershwin's "An American in Paris", which is beautiful. The story is set in post-war Paris where the main character has 3 different men in love with her and they don't know about the others and the book by Craig Lucas is strong. Wonderful songs by Gershwin, like "'S Wonderful", "The Man I Love" and "But not for me." I would see this one again.
The music, dancing, acting, and staging of An American in Paris transported me to another time and place. Simply captivating!!
