Classic Trail of Dead is back to their root sounds - aggressive and explosive, yet melodic.
This was my second time seeing both Trail of Dead and Surfer Blood. When i saw Surfer Blood last year they were young, shy and just went out there and played there music. This time you can tell they're more comfortable on stage. Joking around, interacting with the crowd and um....trashing the stage.... Had a lot of fun during their performance and they are slowly becoming one of my favourites. When I saw Trail of Dead last time was almost 10 years ago. They were one of the hottest bands around at the time and they put on a stellar show. This time around their the wiley veterans. The opened the show with some new songs and then the show slowly transformed into a greatest hits show. Had a wonderful time during their performance as well. Great show all around. I look forward to seeing both bands again in the future.
Great show as always. Some familiar faces and new members. The guys were signing autographs and mingling as first band "surfer blood" performed. Their set consisted of quite a few new songs of the new album "Tao of the Dead" but older hits as well. Good sound, decent turnout. I would of loved to see the duel drummers as seen on previous tours. Reece took front of stage with Conrad more often then other shows as I believe former guitarist was not there. Song selection was good but played in a different order could of resulted in a more energetic set and crowd. Overall wicked show!
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead put on one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen. They played a large range of music from all six of their albums. Great sound quality even though the venue was pretty small and had cement walls. The opening act, Future Of The Left, was very good.
This is my second time seeing Trail Of Dead and they do not disappoint. Opening for them was Slates from the Edmonton area. A decently sounding but ultimately forgettable band. After them was Future Of The Left, which I had no prior listening experience with but they are a force to be reckoned with. Tons of energy and unforgettable songs. They were hilarious too, they ripped into a setlist from Dragonette who played Starlite the night before, just gouging at their bland song titles. They took a stab at Billy Talent as well, Future Of The Left is not to be messed with. Then on came And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, which they have a reputation for some destruction and Edmonton was no exception. Over the course of their set they smashed some bottles, came out into the crowd and knock over the table next to ours and grabbed some bears from the bar. They dumped a beer and one drunk guys head at one point for beating on their monitor. My only complaint to the Trail Of Dead guys is that their set list is almost the same from when I saw them 3 years ago, sticking to a lot of the older songs, and only playing four from their last three albums. For a band that has come into their own and written some amazing material in the last couple years it's disappointing and it's a shame they don't dig into some of those songs live.
I thought Secret Machines had a better set. Problem with Trail of Dead was the volume.... they were so loud it was hard to hear the songs... it was just a mishmash of noise. Also... they didn't play any songs from So Divided... which is my favorite album (released in 2007)... and only 2 songs from Worlds Apart... very disappointing. I love the band, but I wouldn't waste my money seeing them live again.
