About

Ticket buyers will likely never guess that Santa Cruz-born Lorin Ashton, better known as Bassnectar, grew up influenced by rock heavyweights like Megadeth and Metallica and grunge pioneers Nirvana. An interest in ambient acts like Orbital may be less surprising. The electronic music guru—both a DJ and a producer—now delivers electrifying, bass-heavy concerts (hence the name) that typically feature creative remixed tributes like "Seek and Destroy (Bassnectar Remix)" alongside laser light shows that awe tour and festival attendees. Many Bassnectar creations also meld socio-political statements from personalities like Martin Luther King, Jr. and Noam Chomsky into the electronic grooves.

Though he's made more than  a dozen free downloadable mixtapes available at his website since 1999, Bassnectar has also unleashed several full-length albums, including a couple more recent releases on his own label, Amorphous Music. The 2012 release "Vava Voom" features a collaboration with Lupe Fiasco on the title track, as well as "Pennywise Tribute," a remix of Pennywise's own single, "Bro Hymn (Tribute)."

    Mega Sensory Stimulation!!

    by Nika18509 on 2013-10-16Métropolis - Montreal

Bassnectar is one of the 1% who can play dubstep well. His fusion of all music on on a drum n bass bassline, smoothly blending each song masterfully is full of insane high energy that reaches deep within your soul. I haven't danced like that in years! Not to mention the crazy light show. Huge led screens w the music videos playing, even mixing together on-screen as he mixes! The visuals are out of this world. He himself has great energy, hopping around while he works. It's insane. I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to enjoy a different show/concert after this. He seems to know soundsystem a very well as he can play them extremely loud but smooth where most ppl sound like their blowing the system. Get ready for Exterior thru to interior stimulation.

Bassnectar shot his nectar all over everyone!

by Deelz on 2012-11-15Big Four Building - Calgary

This show was the first time I have ever seen Bassnectar, I missed him at Shambhala in 2011 and I also missed his Halloween show last year in Calgary, but I am so glad I saw him this year. The show was just what I wanted, tons of people, bass shaking the venue, and Bassnectar dropping classic tracks. Gramatik and Gladkill were also amazing.

Bassnectar even better than last show

    by BerthaSButt01 on 2012-11-14Métropolis - Montreal

Bassnectar ruled. While it is hard to believe this show at the Metropolis was even better than his last one. Would be great if he could come back again real soon.
