    Expensive 1 stage/ alcohol issues/ Info needed

by me40 on 2014-08-07Camrose Exhibition Centre - Camrose

I love music festivals. I travel across North America to attend music festivals, so I feel I have a lot to compare this one to. There is only one stage, so there is nothing to do if the act going on next is not what you'd like to listen to. More stages should be a high priority for this festival. There is another stage in a beer garden, but with my kids, I didn't get to see any of them. I didn't like the extremes of drinking/ not drinking at this festival. There are beer gardens. I am not the type to want to go into a beer garden and swim around with drunk people to get a glass of wine. I attended this festival with kids, and it didn't seem fair to them to leave them at their seats alone while I went to the beer gardens, chugged back a glass of wine (because you can't carry your drink around the festival) and get back to them. And so what you had was a HUGE amount of really drunk 20-somethings (there is camping at the festival, and I think they probably start drinking early in the day at their camping spot), and totally sober people in the audience. I think this atmosphere affects the entertainers too. The VIP section at the front is about 60 rows of people that get their seats a year in advance, they all stay in their seats to not obstruct the view of the people behind (because in Canada, that's considered rude), are almost completely sober, and nobody jumps up to dance or show their enthusiasm. Miranda Lambert asked, "Are you allowed to drink? Oh, this is a dry festival." The music stops for the "dinner hour". What the heck is that??? Most of the artists you want to see start from 3-5, and you don't need an immediate break before the main acts for the evening start later. The music should continue from 6-7:30. We know how to eat when we are hungry and not miss the people we want to see. There should be information people around. I was new to this festival and found it extremely hard to find out info. I brought my empty water bottle to fill at a water station, and found none. It wasn't until halfway through that I realized the water troughs near the washrooms were intended to be drinkable water too. (weird) it should be labelled. They should have an app for your phone to tell you when the artists play. There should be signs with who the artists are for the day, and when they play, but there isn't. The intent is that you buy a $10 program. In today's world, we don't buy paper products, we look at our phones. There should be wheel chair accessible porta potties at every rest area, but there isn't. (I saw a man in a wheel chair struggle to try to get into two potties that were not wheel chair accessible, there wasn't one. I ran to find someone to tell me where the closest one available was, I couldn't find anyone and had to go to 2 other stations to find one so I could go back and tell the man where he could go potty. THAT IS NOT OK.

We had a great evening at BVJ. Marty Stewart was good. Kip Moore okay and Miranda was excellent. Plus snowbird planes and fireworks.

Enjoyed the event very much, despite getting a lot of conflicting information regarding changing tickets into wristbands. Also, I would suggest not cleaning out the outhouses by the main stage while a headliner is performing.

    Too Wild

by baller on 2013-08-18Camrose Exhibition Centre - Camrose

This used to be a family event, but now it's just a big drunk party. As well, if you have general tickets, you may as well watch the music video on youtube. Can't see or hear the artists.

    Big Valley Jamboree 2013

by jmhntr on 2013-08-09Camrose Exhibition Centre - Camrose

As per usual BVJ was an AWESOME experience. The line-up this year was absolutely the best!! There are only a few things that I disliked: - According to Panhandle, camping was sold out.. if this was the case then why were there empty campsites EVERYWHERE? - The music quality was very quiet and hard to hear in the beer gardens.
