Amoeba Collective - A Groovy Trip

by PenGirl on 2012-11-19Avenue Theatre - Edmonton

Amoeba Collective Saturday November 17, 2012 Backed by the top talents of Madagascar Slim and Michelle Joseph; Amoeba Collective showcases the main styles of Bill Bourne and Tippy Agogo. For the Saturday night CD release party in Edmonton the ensemble invited friends Miguel Ferrer and Moses Gregg to join in. The show started a little later than scheduled as the troop had made time to pay their respects at the celebration of life for their dear friend Don Snider. Then it was off to make the Mojo happen at the Avenue Theatre. This production of Amoeba Collective has definitely been harvesting some mixed reactions. Don’t expect a traditional Folk sound, these grooves are a vibrant trip in a range of different hip jazzy directions. Do expect Bill’s refined connection to his music and his audience and Tippy’s experimental and energetic dedication to every note he produces. Not often does such diversity meld together this seamlessly on a collective effort. Of course Bill Bourne has a track record for doing just that in all of his collaborations and once again brings together accomplished talents from far and wide on this Collection of Amoeba. Notably absent from the November 17th release was alternative musician Tom Mennier who plays on the CD recordings. The opening act for the November 17th show in Edmonton must not go unrecognized. The Great North Blues Band brings full throttle blues that got the crowd up and dancing. They are talented musicians bringing together players from varied and accomplished backgrounds. Great North Blues Band full line up includes Sean Stephens, Alex Putnam, Kris Bridge, Jenie Thai, Sam Toms, Will Ryan, Dan Shinnan, Johnny Mack, and Harvey Danger. Remember the name Great North Blues Band because these guys will surely be making some noticeable waves in the music scene.
