    Amazing Show!

by Beenius on 2012-10-16Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

The parts of the show that were absolutely mind-blowing were the Thousand Hand Bhodhisattva (all the dancers were deaf), Butterfly Lovers (also deaf dancers) and the Peacock Dance (deaf dancer). The fact that these performers are deaf but are synced flawlessly was very amazing to watch. Other acts like the Peking Opera were entertaining as well but for ~$50 tickets, I could have done without the 'Karaoke" and the western songs.... They're damn talented, that's for sure, but if they had sung in Chinese, I feel like those parts of the show wouldn't have been so slow. Least favourite moment was the vision loss dance. I know I can't be too critical, but following the thousand hand dance (the main reason people went to see this show), I feel like the dancers should have been better rehearsed...

    Emotionally Provocative & Thoroughly Entertaining

by RahJuice on 2012-10-14Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

"My Dream" by China Disabled People's Performing Arts Troupe at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts was truly captivating and heartfelt. I almost teared up watching it, and was thoroughly entertained by the wide variety of material they covered, from singing, to dance, to dramatic opera. I was also intrigued and surprised by the interesting turn in direction the performance took in mixing jazz, latin dancing and of course singing "We Are The World." Despite some campiness (which is to be expected to an extent), this performance is worth every penny to watch these performers execute this so well with regards to their disabled state. A terrific experience and a humbling pleasure to watch such talent.

    Unique and Fantastic!

by Deafie on 2012-10-14Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

I like the way they run the performance including TV screens with captions. Even though at times they were not matched while Blind people sang but I still like the way it works because while they sang, I couldn't hear what is being sung so I watched TV screens with their beautiful history of events with thousands of people viewing their performance. Fantastic! If you ask me to pick one favourite moment, You CAN'T because I enjoyed them all!!! Beautiful "My Dream", Colourful "Butterfly Lovers", Elegant "Peacock Dance", Fantastic pairs of "Scent of a Woman", "Fantastic Rumba", "Mysterious Shamba", vibrant "Passionate Cha-Cha" & exciting "Triumphant Cowboy" are my favourite!!!! Wow! Really enjoyed their rhythms of dance!!!! I want to thank to every performers for giving us a chance to watch and enjoy their performance. Really fascinated to watch! Both Deaf and Blind alike, Disability is really not the issue! Beauty of the difference is the issue here! Thank You!!!!
