Columbus Crew History
The Columbus Crew holds the distinction of being introduced in 1994 as the first of 10 inaugural MLS clubs. In 1999, the club further etched its place in American sports history when it played its first game at the former Historic Crew Stadium, the country's first major-league stadium built specifically for soccer.
On the pitch, the team's first trophy came in 2002, when the Black & Gold won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Crew's first MLS Cup trophy came in 2008 with the team also securing the Supporters' Shield that season led by Argentine midfielder Guillermo Barros Schelotto. The midfielder won the league's MVP award in 2008, and he wrapped things up that season by assisting on all three of the Crew's goals in their victory over the New York Red Bulls in the MLS Cup final. The Crew followed that up by winning the Supporters' Shield in 2009.
In the 2020 season, the club focused on competing globally with the signing of players like Lucas Zelarayan and Darlington Nagbe to add quality, and coupled with veteran talent like Gyasi Zardes team captain Jonathan Mensah, the Crew took home their second-ever MLS Cup trophy. Zelarayan, who had been named the 2020 MLS Newcomer of the Year, registered two goals and one assist against Seattle Sounders FC 3-0, also securing 2020 MLS Cup MVP honors. In 2023, Columbus hoisted the MLS Cup for a third time behind an MVP performance by forward Cucho Hernández.

Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field
The 2022 MLS season marked the first full season for the Crew at Lower.com Field - a dynamic and new soccer-specific stadium in the heart of Columbus in the Astor Park neighborhood.
In 2021, the Black & Gold moved into Lower.com Field, which has a capacity for 20,371 supporters and includes seats that are as much as 28 feet closer to the pitch than any of the seats at Historic Crew Stadium. A defining feature of the stadium is a 220,000 square-foot canopy that covers all supporters during the match, providing shelter from weather conditions throughout the season. The New Nordecke at Lower.com Field is located on the north end of the stadium and is the second-largest supporters section in MLS, with standing-only capacity for 3,364 supporters.
The Columbus Crew’s 2024 regular season kicks off in February at home as the Crew face off against Atlanta United FC. Columbus plays their final match of the regular season at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey against Eastern Conference opponents the New York Red Bulls. Here’s a list of key matches to keep an eye on:

Really enjoyed the game between the Columbus Crew and Toronto FC. A great soccer stadium.
Good venue for a game. This was about our 8th trip to the stadium. Biggest disappointment was the pathetic service in The Upper 90 lounge. Bartender was more interested in talking to his buddies than driving people st half time. Left a sour taste in my mouth. We are visiting fans of the opponents and Columbus fans are awesome. They game over while we were tailgating plus our friends from years ago. Always good experience with their fans. Sad to see the Crew leave if they do but will be back to the city for sure.
As a Toronto FC fan was not the result I was looking for, but that said it is always a good time when I get to Columbus to watch the Crew SC in action. Have attended a number of times, and always a pleasant experience. I recommend all MLS fans schedule a road trip to Columbus. I am sure you will not be disappointed with the stadium, fans or atmosphere. ENJOY!
We went, we watched, we concord! Toronto FC with the sweep in Columbus this season!
Nice place to take in a game! Was not much of a game on this evening though. Front row is always great with players stopping so kids can get stuff autographed. Only negative, but a big one was that my plates/tags got stole off of car during the game! Made for an interesting trip back to Canada and put a damper on the weekend.
For a game played in the rain and cold, with two none playoff teams, what could you expect! Was not the best soccer I have ever seen, but was entertaining. Great place to watch a game for a cheap price! Would recommend this venue to anyone interested in watching a MLS soccer game. Been to a few different MLS stadiums and this is the best, hands down, for being able to be near the pitch and feeling like you are part of the game!
Big win for Vancouver, and a little unlucky for the Crew. Only Vancouver's second ever road win, and it comes at the hands of Columbus. Lots of debate on the first call to disallow what looks to be a legit Crew goal. Nice stadium, lots of empty seating, but weather was not the best. Overall good time and good game!
Newcastle United FC (EPL) - 3 Columbus Crew (MLS) - 0 Have been a fan of Newcastle for years, so the chance to see them take on one of my favorite MLS teams, was something that I couldn't pass on. Was my first chance to ever see Newcastle play in person, and I was happy with the result. It was worth the 6+ hour drive from Canada!
If you want to get good tickets for a cheap price to see your favorite team, this is the stadium you want to go to. I had front row tickets for $30 each! Was so close, that I talked to a few of the Columbus players including Jeff Cunningham, and Danny O'Rourke. There were only thee other fans sitting in my row. Columbus fans, were are you at? I have been to other MLS clubs and you can't get in the stadium for $30. Only draw back was that I had was to get my tickets put aside at the Wil-Call since they always show up after the even since I live in Canada, andthey can get them hear on time though standard mail.
Big Crew Win over Galaxy! Columbus Crew look good for second championship. No Beckham - No Schelotto in the game. Weather a little cold, but rain held off. A few Crew players came out and signed autographes after the game.
