Please don't be fooled by the picture, or the other, unrealistic, review of this show. This was an extremely amateur production of an "updated/contemporary" version of the famous Carmen. I was sooo excited to see this show as I love flamenco and the previous Carmen performances I've had the pleasure of seeing, and it was a poor poor representation of both. If I went into details, it would take me a while to describe everything that was wrong with this production, but just to make it clear to people why they shouldn't see this show, I'll name a few of the reasons. Carmen is played by the "star" of the show, 20-30 years past her prime, overweight, and very distastefully dressed Maria Serrano. The other female dancers are dressed in mini-skirts, which they had to keep pulling down, and which take away from any flamenco movement, making the dance look very unattractive, or are dressed as if going to a nightclub, which, believe it or not, is actually one of the scene locations. There are other members of the company who come on stage and dance in trackpants, I'm not kidding, to dance/techno music incorporated into the traditional flamenco music, and accompanied by disruptive screen images in the background of bank promotional banners, financial advisors, politicians, newsmakers, and a tarot card reader who looked like the devil. All in all, it was a cheesy, messy, distasteful, awful show! We didn't know whether to get upset, which we did at the beginning, or laugh, which we did by the end because we wanted to make the evening pleasant for us somehow. Anyways... avoid this show!!!
