Dallas Stars History

The Dallas Stars began play in 1967 as the Minnesota North Stars, earning two trips to the Stanley Cup Final. They relocated to Dallas after the 1992-1993 season and dropped "North" from their name.

The team immediately brought a winning tradition to Dallas, making the playoffs four of its first five seasons. Then came the back-to-back seasons that Stars fans will remember forever. In 1998-1999, sparked by center Mike Modano (the franchise's all-time leading scorer), off-season addition Brett Hull, and goaltender Ed Belfour, the Stars swept through the playoffs to defeat the Buffalo Sabres and clinch their first Stanley Cup Championship. The following season, the Stars again made the Stanley Cup Final, but lost to the New Jersey Devils in six games.

The Stars made it to the playoffs six more times over the next seven seasons. The team earned the best regular season record in the Western Conference for the 2014-2015 season. The team went on to clinch additional playoff berths in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023. They made it to the Final again in 2020, but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game Six.

Since their arrival in 1993, the Stars are one of the most successful sports franchises in Dallas, making 18 postseason appearances and capturing eight division championships and two Presidents' Trophies.

    Dallas Stars vs Ottawa Senators

by ottawavalleygirl on 2018-03-08American Airlines Center - Dallas

Enjoyed the game - Ottawa won !! Arena is extremely cold. Walk a block or two away from arena if you are using UberX - police were blocking the streets close to arena and driver couldn't get to us.

    Great time at Stars game

by Lava1964 on 2018-02-08American Airlines Center - Dallas

I hadn't been to an NHL game since 1991, so when I had a trip planned for Dallas I decided to take in a Stars game. The arena was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our seats were in the very back row, but they did provide an unobstructed view of the whole ice surface. All in all it was an excellent experience.

amasing facility, great game, worth every penny. The only drawback is too expensive for parking and lack of instruction how to park and the traffic congestion in and out the game

by outtatownfan on 2011-01-02American Airlines Center - Dallas

They have a really nice building. Everyone was friendly despite me wearing the opposition team's jersey. And of course, the right team won! LOL Awesome seats too.
