    Bring them back!

    by Sheri M. on 2023-09-03

The performance was captivating from start to finish. The interaction among the dancers, orchestra and vocalist captured the essence of jazz improvisation. Can't wait for their next visit to the NAC.

I loved it from beginning to the red shoe finale! The creative and entertaining Vicki Adams Willis choreography performed by superb dancers and accompanied by accomplished jazz musicians was outstanding. I did not want the evening to end. How fortunate we are to have such a high quality performance group and musicians as this in our city. So unfortunate that funding cuts at MRU this year will see the end of the outstanding jazz music department that includes Tyler Hornby and Rubim de Toledo.

The calibre of this dance troupe is amazing. The musical accompaniment is stellar, together they put on a world class production. Vicki has a lot to be proud of.

One show is not enough to review 30 amazing years

by YYC1 on 2014-03-31Theatre Junction GRAND - Calgary

For 30 years we have been enthralled and entertained but DJD and Vicki Adams talent. Dancers In Love was a wonderful tribute to the expansiveness of this work, my major criticism was that I wanted it to keep going. Even thought the show ran over 2 hours long we still wanted more! As always with DJD - stunning dancers presenting amazing dance routines is glorious costumes backed by a live 5 piece band that were so good they almost could have stole the show if the dancers hadn't been so brilliant! Thank you DJD.

There should be more information to describe the event when purchasing tickets! I took my 10yr old daughter who is interested in dance & is taking jazz. I thought it would be a good example of jazz dance. It was not! It was dark & more about the biography of a person we were not interested in! If that was described I would not have chosen that particular event! It looks like DJD puts on other events that would be more appropriate & fun to watch. But unfortunately I won't gamble wasting my money again!! The dancers were great for what it was. I appreciate the energy & hardwork of the performers but did not enjoy the overall show!

Turn Up means high energy - fantastic choreography

by eyecandy on 2013-04-16Theatre Junction GRAND - Calgary

I have been a DJD fan for many years and this was one of the best shows yet. The performance showcased the athletic capabilities of the dancers while maintaining the jazz and hip hop quality expected of DJD. The music was tremendous -- as usual.

    DJD never disappoints!

by neuro on 2013-04-16Theatre Junction GRAND - Calgary

The DJD performance, Turn Up the Get Down, was spectacular. I always expect to have a new experience at each show and Sunday delivered. The dance was physical, expressive and perfectly showcased each dancer's abilities. The projections during the second half added another dimension and since I was sitting farther back they gave me a peripheral experience. Live music? Of course! The only way to truly showcase the excellence of the talented musicians. The only downside of the performance were the too-young children in attendance. I think 10 would be an adequate age restriction. When I spend money to attend an event, I do not want to be confronted with squirming, whimpering, whining children being disciplined by their parents. Not appropriate!!!!!

    Beautiful music, square performance

by DaniH on 2013-04-15Theatre Junction GRAND - Calgary

The Theatre Grand Junction is great, but it does not suit the spirit of the performance. The band looked very rigid, although the music was fantastic. the members looked like they were doing a job, reading the notes rather than playing Jazz!!! The choreography is subjective. Some dances were better than others. The company though was not not equal in terms of performance capabilities some dancers had more soul than others, some were technically superior, others were more rounded but less sparkly. All in all no one stood out In conclusion, the squareness of the venue reflected on the spirit of the show and the performance was like a recital rather than a groovy painting in motion. The audience lack of enthusiasm and getting into the spirit is also a factor... I would still recommend it
