An unimposing man, alone with his guitar, took to the stage and within minutes made every soul present feel that they were all friends and neighbors gathered together in the kitchen for an intimate evening to share stories and songs.
Mr McLean was apologetic for being a bit under the weather with a head cold and shared with us that he'd been up since 4am travelling from Thunderbay, and had some problems with bringing his cd's across the US boarder but these small inconveniences in no way stopped the man from putting on an outstanding preformance.
He introduced each song with a wee story of how that song came to be, sharing personal glimpses of his home and life growing up and living in the highlands of Perthshire Scotland. In addition, he patiently taught the audience many of the choruses of his songs and encouraged us to join in and sing along.
One particularly funny moment was when Dougie was trying to have the audience act as "the percussion", directing us to clap when he tapped his foot on the floor, only to have to remind us that we didn't have to stare so intently at his foot. He noted that every head was following and nodding along with his foot and goodnaturedly told us that we looked like a bunch of idiots.
When the show was finished he came down and met many of the fans, several who had seen him in various places over the years and signed autographs.
