More Fun Than the Last Time I had Fun!

by toomuch666 on 2014-05-16The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Knowing that Down is coming to town always means you are going to have a good time. This is a band that does not disappoint, regardless of health issues or multiple members...its a family that welcomes all and is never Lazy when it comes to making a crowd mental. I was a lucky VIP (if you can get one go for it - it was so worth it) purchaser, it made the evening just that more interesting. The staff did not treat us like a herd of cattle and they didn't oversell the VIP -which means no OVERCROWDING. I missed Sons of Otis however was there for every note of the Down show which had a little bit of everything, however most of all it had a group of people singing (screaming) the words to every song and waiting on their next command by lead singer Phil Anselmo. During Conjure - an 8 minute assault on the ears off their new album release the very next day - I went from the pit to the balcony (see what VIP gets ya) to get a look at the mess Down had made of its fans. I have to say it was a hot, sweaty, intense site unto itself. From any angle - this show rocked. I am very glad that I have been able to see them the 3 times they have hit Toronto and hope that they will not wait so long next time. Hail the Leaf!

    Awesome

by Dude425 on 2014-05-15The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Down was great! I've been waiting to see these guys for years. I was not disappointed. One of the few super groups that rock! I dig Down more than Pantera or CoC, and they proved it at the Danforth

The energy was ridiculous, the crowd was great and the venue is awesome too! Would def go back to see another live show there!

    Outstanding performance, awful sound quality

by Mothrpe on 2014-05-15The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

If you like hard rock and/or metal you can't do better than a down concert, incredible energy and the best frontman in the business of metal. That said, the acoustics at the danforth music hall need some major improvement. It had a blaring sound that made me unable to discern guitar riffs at all sometimes, definitely a major dissapointment there. So down is amazing, danforth music hall is not.

    Phil was phenominal

by Tabjen on 2009-10-27Kool Haus - Toronto

One of the best shows I've experienced in long time although the opening act Weedeater was terrible (they could definetly use a new sound guy and maybe a new singer).....Voivod definetly kicked it up a notch since the last time I saw them a few years back.....and of course Phil was phenominal....the set was tight and the vocals amazing...next time they tour I will definetly be buying tickets.

    Down w/ Voivod & Danava

by Firejackel on 2009-10-08MACEWAN BALLROOM - CALGARY

Down @ MacEwan Ballroom Aug 8/09. Well this show was originally to be in MacEwan Hall which is about twice the size of the Ballroom. Danava have a real heavy rock sound and were received well by the audiance. there set consisted of about 8 songs and lasted about 30 minutes. Voivod came out next and gave an awsome performance. I saw them last year at Monsters of Rock and wasn’t to impressed with their show. This time was much better and on top of it it was Snakes birthday. Jason still isn’t playing live with them but is reconized as a member and was invloved in the recording of their latest album. I was to see Down in 2007 with Heaven & Hell but they canceled due to illness. This time Rex was not able to make the tour so they had a friend of the band playing bass. The show is extremely intense and doesn’t really have any stoppage from start to finish. Their set was about an hour and half and consist of all their hits. At one point they did comment on moving to the smaller venue but I’m sure the crowd apprieciated that they still played their show

    AWESOME NIGHT!!

by ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ on 2009-09-21Kool Haus - Toronto

Opening band was called WEEDEATER and they killed! singer reminded me of GG Allen but way cooler! The drummer was an absolute beast. Check them out. VOIVOD promised a surprise.... They put on a show to remember and got an amazing response from the Toronto audience. Last song: Phill Anselmo joined them on stage! Down came out to chants of: "DOWN, DOWN, DOWN..." For their final song...members of VOIVOD joined them on stage and it was like BAND AID all over again! What an awesome night! One of the best shows I've ever been to.

Down minus the opening were acts amazing

by Lanks on 2009-09-21Kool Haus - Toronto

First of all I missed the first act , but what I have herd was I did not miss much. Got in just as Vovoid was starting, I thought Ozzy was old and and had run his coarse, but Vovoid takes the cake, The new guitarist was more concerned about how he looked rocking out then hitting the right notes, the only thing that did not stand out was the bassist and the drummer, which was a good thing. Thank god for Down, from first song till last Phil had us. He still has it, knows how to work a crowd, the band was super tight, and finished the show with there best. All in All I wish bands would stop throwing there friends a bone, show up with a quality opener, but not someone who will show you up. As of now not sure anyone will show up Phil.
