    Edgar Winter Delivers the Goods!

    by Sukhumvit21 on 2012-06-26Deerfoot Inn & Casino - Calgary

Edgar Winter's voice is as incredible as his virtuosity on Sax and Keyboards. The show is a showcase of this artist's gifted voice and musical skills. Very enjoyable.

    Edgar Disappoints

by JohnFromCalgary on 2012-06-25Deerfoot Inn & Casino - Calgary

Edgar Winter has been around for a long time and there have been some memorable moments. Lately I have seen him a couple of times in small venue concerts like this one and in airports. With all that travel time, and the apparently steady stream of gigs, one might have expected his band and he to be in sync to a far greater degree than they were on Saturday night. Instead of a polished and well rehearsed unit, we witnessed long exchanges of Mel Torme styled noodling between Edgar and the lead guitarist. That same guitarist provided occassional Hendrix inspired guitar acrobatics, apparently intended to dazzle the crowd (yawn). The folks running the sound system at this venue need to wake up and get in the game too. Half the time one could not hear Edgar's mic at all from a number of locations around the room. Edgar and his band are "mailing it in". Individually they all seem to have the talent but they need to work on becoming a far tighter unit. Right now they are just improvising soloists without much effective collaboration. Screwing around on stage and hollering "yeah" does not make it - particularly when we know there are better things there to be had.

    Edgar Winter and Rick Derringer

by HeatherIM on 2011-02-14Sound Academy - Toronto

this was our first time to the Sound Academy and we found it was a great venue for a concert like this.....never had to wait for a drink (service)...the washrooms were always clean people working there and security were all very helpfull and polite liked the idea of having food there.....and when we came out we noticed there was lots of taxis waiting .....and for us the parking lot was just across the street... the sound was awsome---and of course Edgar and Rick put on a really good show....well worth the money we spent...and there was no problem with taking in cameras.... we will be back ...........thanks for supporting live music

Don't under estimate this old guy!

    by pirate1 on 2011-02-14Sound Academy - Toronto

You'll be amazed by Edgar's band and his musicality and stage presence. He also plays a multitude of instruments during the show. I confess to not listening to very much of Edgar's music - that will certainly change now.

    EDGAR WINTER WAS GREAT

    by yesfan49 on 2011-02-14Sound Academy - Toronto

THIS TRUELY WAS A GREAT SHOW. RICK DERRINGER OPENED WITH A SOLID SET AND EDGAR WINTER AND HIS BAND DELIVERED AN EVEN BETTER PERFORMANCE. EDGAR'S YOUNG BAND WAS SUPERB. EDGAR SHOWED HIS TALENT ON KEYBOARDS, SAX, VOCALS, AND EVEN SOME DRUM WORK. I LOVED THE TEXAS BOOGIE NUMBERS AND OF COURSE FRANKENSTEIN STOLE THE SHOW. THE MOMENTUM WAS GREAT IN THIS SHOW UNTIL THE END WHEN HE DID TOBACCO ROAD. A GOOD SONG WAS THEN TURNED INTO "FILLER" . HIS DUALING VOCALS WITH GUITAR, DRUMS, AND BASE WENT ON FOR AN ETERNITY. THE BAND HAD ALREADY PROVED ITSELF SO WHY DO WE HAVE TO HAVE THESE SOLOS ONE INSTRUMENT AT A TIME. SOME OF THESE OLD ROCKERS COULD LEARN FROM THE NEW INDIE ROCKERS WHO DON'T DO THIS. DESPITE THIS LULL THE OVERALL CONCERT WAS STILL A GREAT EXPERIENCE. I HAD SEEN BOTH OF THESE GUYS WITH THE RINGO STAR ALLSTAR BAND A FEW MONTHS EARLIER AND WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE A FULL SHOW OF ROCK AND BLUES AT THE SOUND ACADEMY. AS USUAL THE SOUND ACADEMY WAS A GREAT VENUE. I HOPE THEY WILL CONTINUE TO BOOK CLASSIC ROCK ARTISTS AS WELL AS THE NEW BANDS

    Great Show

by VAJP on 2011-02-14Sound Academy - Toronto

Went with a group of friends. The venue is terrific and becoming one of our favorite places to go. Rick Derringer is an absolutely phenomenal guitarist. Edgar Winter is multi-talented and a does a set that blows you away. If you ever get the chance go. I've seen Edgar several times with Ringo Starr and he's always wonderful. I highly recommend both Rick and Edgar.
