by Deno on 2018-08-27Hawrelak Park - Edmonton

More Blues we found it to be moving away from blues this year few acts seemed more rock than blues on Saturday . Or maybe we are getting old ! We missed our meeting place beside the beer tent we always meet people there year after year past 15 years anyway or maybe getting old again don’t like change .

    blues bust

by twinrider on 2016-08-22Hawrelak park - Edmonton

Sad to say didn't enjoy the fest this year. Only went Friday night left early as I am not into funk/jazz. I wanted Blues. I left at 9pm. Very disappointed. Great musicians but not my kind of music. I noticed I wasn't the only one leaving early. I am sure a lot of people enjoyed the show, but not me. Sorry.

    Excellent performer Line Up

by Pamcakes on 2015-08-31Hawrelak Park - Edmonton

Went Sunday only and arrived in time for all performers. Jimmy and the Sleepers and all the other local Edmonton performers were great. Highlight of the day was Henry Walker. Got a great groove going. Very impressive at his age or any age. Unfortunately the great blues vibe he set down was shattered by the next performance by Janiva Magness. Used to be a big fan but she has changed her style and my husband and I were not impressed. Loud, harsh "angry woman blues/pop". Fortunately, Canned Heat brought back the magic of the night. Fun, nostalgic and bang-on stellar musicians. Most people know them because of Woodstock and their hit songs, but I never realized that they are first and foremost an amazing blues band. We saw them last year at Festival Place and were blown away. If you get a chance, see them while you can! All in all a great festival. Should have a bigger merchandise area and more exciting merchandise. Same old designs.

Edmonton Bluesfest was totally worth it!

by Lexienya on 2014-08-20Hawrelak Park - Edmonton

From start to finish the Bluesfest was awesome! A great mix of acts. Admittedly I prefer Chicago Blues but the Zydeco Hellraisers were the life of the party and are being downloaded to my Ipod for sure.

    Fab!!!

by Riddington on 2014-08-18Hawrelak Park - Edmonton

This was our first time to the Blues Festival. The Robert Cray Band was fantastic. Enjoyed all the artists. This won't be our last! Great show. The only downside was waiting for the bus to go back to parking at the U of A... wouldn't have been so bad if the mosquitos hadn't been trying to pack us all off! Sadly, the bus driver took a bit of abuse as only one bus was allotted to ferry people back and forth to the parking.

    Blues Fest

by Shpurly on 2013-08-25Hawrelak Park - Edmonton

Missed some of the acts unfortunately, but really enjoyed Homemade Jamz. Mannish Boy, and the North Mississippi All-Stars. Traffic/bus system is well run. Special accolades to Driver 1562 :) Should still have 1 bus running between hrs of 7pm - 9pm (every 1/2 hr maybe) Still unfortunate for the 10 pm curfew :( No assigned seats. Sound was great. View was good - when people were not standing in the aisles in front of us.

I found that some of the louder bands did not come through the sound system very well, more like loud noise. Overall I enjoyed the weekend of blues and the atmosphere was great.
