Great event and racing. Keep the NASCC race event. Need to advertise all the races.
Rained Friday, media said , and varified with a phone call the event was cancelled. No refund was to be issued. Need I say more.....
The Edmonton Indy needs to remian in Edmonton. It is very difficult to attract that quality of racing, we need to hold onto it.
Despite the rain Friday and Saturady it was a good weekend of racing. The new track made for good on-track action. We missed the NASCAR Canadian Tire series cars this year. Waching these stockcars on a road course in the past was one of the highlights for the weekend. It was nice to have the large screen monitors arund the course but it was quite impossible to read the standings as they scrolled across the top. 'They' need to bring in montors that the fans can read to keep track car postions during the race. Overall a lot of fun. We'll be back
The 2011 Edmonton Indy was very good. The main item that requires improvement is that the people selling the Indy tickets need to be better informed. I had requested tickets in Grandstand 10 closest to the wheelchair section which the person selling the tickets thought was Section 1 . . . . well it was Section 10. But the map didn't indicate sections, only grandstands.
seats were good . you needed more food venders . and bring the NASCAR CT next year
this has to be one of the best ways to spend a weekend!!!!!!!!! calgary stampede eat your heart out!
I have attended every year of this event and I wasn't impressed this year with my seats, the food, the communication of the changes and the event organizers. But as always the weekend was a success due to the DRIVERS, their TEAMS, and the racing!!
Things that Could be Better: With the miles of track, and the acres of space, the grandstand seating was way to cramped. In a hockey arena fine, there is only so much space. Here, it's just spending as little as possible on the minimum grandstand required. boo. Grandstands. Who the heck numbered the rows. A is in the middle B, C, D ... goes up and double letters go down. There were no seating layouts available at time of ticket purchase, I thought I was near the top of the grandstand, turns out, row B is HALFWAY up. Parking. How come the City of Edmonton put up extended no parking signs in Northwood?? I lived in that neighborhood for years, and had to have a NAIT parking pass for my house, but the sidestreets were always free game for students. Why not racing? Residents still would have the same amount of parking reserved for them. The neighborhood was empty. No information about the FM transmission frequency or availability on ticketmaster or indy site prior to race. I didn't bring a radio, cause I thought there was no FM transmission. Jumbotron. Section 20. Quit a few times. Oh, BTW the resolution is so low on those that you cannot read the scrolling names, numbers, and positions at the top of the screen. Please revamp fonts and sizes so you can read them. Why is a paddock pass another $55. Seems like a money grab. Very poorly explained, I had to ask a couple of people what was required to get in. The loop road bus. Big pain to get around the site, if bought a bottle of water, drank half of it, used the loop road bus, you couldn't take it back in. Loop road bus should have secure INSIDE gate access so getting on the bus kept you in the event. More rig mats required behind turn 1. There was 6' of path in front of the grandstand that you could traverse the site that wasn't muddy. I feel sorry for some of those campers. Surely, with all the acres of space there must have been some dry spots. The event itself was great.
I have been to the Indy/champ car races every year except one since it started in Edmonton. the very best race events in my mind where the first couple of years. I say this not because the racing was more exciting but because the off track events at the site were far better. I am very interested in the racing but I believe it is the other events that go on at the track between the races that make the event a "Great Event". I think more name brand music acts, a couple of bandstand/beer garden areas, interactive display tents by car manufacturers and other related displays relating to the car racing seen. I also missed the CASCAR racing this year. I think that is a real plus to the whole weekend. In whole though I think considering the weather this year the race was very good for the first run with Octane Racing. the new track is very good. Hoping it gets improved and better for next year.
