    Northlands Chuckwagons

by ChuckwagonJ on 2011-07-26Northlands Park Racetrack - Edmonton

Very well run but being an avid chuckwagon fan found it very UNexciting. Kinda thought about it and realized that because the grandstands are so far from the action at track level that the sounds that make chuckwagon racing an adrenaline pumper are missing. It feels like you are watching the event on TV instead of being there. Most of the other tracks the grandstands are closer to the track and therefore you hear the horses hooves, you hear the harness jingling and you hear the drivers! At Northlands there is none of that and it definitely takes away from the total experience. If I was a first time ticket buyer probably would not have had enough excitement to go again. Also could barely hear the announcer which also takes away excitement levels. My suggestion? - Put microphones at ground levels with speakers in the grandstand that transmit the sound at the actual volume of the wagons, crowd would hear this just like they were beside the track and absolutely make the experience great! It's nice to see the whole race around the track. Now we just need the sounds to make the experience complete.

Opening Night at the Chucks was great

by Numbers on 2011-07-25Northlands Park Racetrack - Edmonton

The races were great. It started off a little slow, as the grommed the track after the very first heat, but then it picked up and most of the races were exciting. There were some very close ones.
