About

Debuting their second album at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, the whimsical and fiercely nonconformist musical group Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros finished up their 2013 summer tour just in time to prepare for their next circuit in the New Year. Known as much for their relentless concert schedule as their recognizable 60s hippie commune sound, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are reinvigorating the folk rock music scene alongside occasional tour mates, Mumford and Sons. Expressing a positive, love-one-another vibe while exploring self-image in their music, lead singer Alex Ebert (from Ima Robot) and his many merry cohorts put on energetic live shows that feel both intimate and global. This is no doubt thanks to Ebert’s personal journey, which began with the creation of his alter ego, Edward Sharpe, and his pilgrimage from self-indulgent lovesick drug addict to magnanimous creative.

After strapping on the mantle of Mr. Sharpe, Ebert collected childhood friends, musicians and Jade Castrinos, a one-time sweetheart who shares the vocals in the wildly popular single “Home,” among others, and began playing shows in 2007. In 2009, they toured the nation in a white school bus. Now boasting three full-length albums, including “Up From Below,” “Here” and their recent self-titled work, the collective intends to release some B-sides before completing a fourth album. Though fans may have to wait to hear the next selection of avant-garde musical pieces, they can buy tickets to a show that’s almost certainly coming to a city near them soon. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are undeniably unique in appearance, stage presence and sound, and the deliriously happy disciples have an enchanting effect, even when played through car speakers.

    Underwhelming

    by McD22 on 2016-04-07Mod Club - Toronto

This was my sixth time seeing ESMZ and it was the first time I've left one of their shows disappointed. Although they announced that they'd be playing their entire new album, I expected they'd at least play a few of their old songs. They didn't. They played for under an hour and then left the stage without a word. The vibe of the crowd was "That's it?" Some of the new songs are amazing but a few are not very good, especially in a live setting. When you pay $45 to see a band you expect more than this. I hope the seventh time I see them will be better!

    Disappointed fan

    by Lynner67 on 2016-04-01Mod Club - Toronto

Saw Edward Sharpe at the Mod Club in Toronto - very disappointed that they played all new material and NOT ONE of their good, old songs. They took too long between each song and even forgot the words to one - it was like watching a bad rehearsal or a band practice. This is a very talented group and I was really looking forward to seeing them - never again.

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros unforgettable!!

by Marleigh888 on 2012-09-23Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

Entire band (of twelve members) were interactive and energetic the entire show. They interacted with the crowd and most importantly, had a near perfect sound quality. Their vocals and instruments sound just as good if not better live. (They also interrupted "home" part way through to invite a couple who just got engaged at the side of the stage durin the Song, onto the stage. The couple got to sing into the microphones and take home two tambourines. So sweet, romantic, personable and most importantly unforgettable!) Great, great show

    Edward Sharpe magic

by teamedwardsharpe on 2012-09-20Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

This concert is one of the most memorable concerts I have ever attended. Such an intimate venue did wonders for these talented individuals and ensemble, I left the concert feeling like I had just jammed with some of my friends. Jade and Alexander's chemistry on stage was undeniable and they connected the whole audience through great music. Their live talents exceed their recorded talent. The vibe they extend out to the audience makes for an amazing experience. Love flows off the stage into the audience. Thank-you Alexander, Jade and the rest of the band for the best live music experience of my life.

by KOPITE on 2012-09-20Edmonton Event Centre - Edmonton

I defy you to come away from this show without a huge grin on your face! What a fantastic group of talented people who's carefree humble manner is so refreshing to see in this age of "inflated ego's" amoungst artisits. Vocal harmonies are tight, all in all a real feel good show delivered to a wide age audience which leaves you wanting more of the same. Do youself a favour and don't miss them!
