I was quite dissappointed in this performance. Nothing in previous accounts of the show prepared me for the preponderance of French in the dialogue. I am unfortunately not bi-lingual and the sur-titles were quite inadequate. Not only were they much too small to see from the back of the stalls but, even if they had been decipherable, I suspect that they would have disappeared long before they could be read, so rapidly spoken was the dialogue. I frequently go to French films screened with sub-titles and find them perfectly satisfactory. However, I was very impressed with the dancing, and the imagery in the choreography was highly imaginative. But it was still, overall, a distinct dissappointment.

The title says it all. A very inspiring performance with something for most everyone. From the masterfully applied lighting techniques to the striking costumes, Eonnagata remains classy and judicious in it's application of the art at almost every interval.

    Stunning

This was a stunning and provocative show. The use of light and shadow was innovative and evocative. As for the content ... if our sub-conscience could dance this is what it might look like.

    Eonnagata

As a big fan of Robert Lepage, I was left a bit confused and bewildered by Eonnagata. Visually, it was dream-like and absolutely stunning, with his customary masterful use of lighting and beautiful staging, costumes, imagery and sound. However, I found the overall performance conceited in its contemporary simplicity. The very talented three performers received numerous standing ovations but I just could not get myself to clap and sat in stunned silence instead, trying to decide how I felt about what I had just seen. I still haven't decided. I would recommend Eonnagata only to those who really enjoy contemporary dance.
