    Two styles that don't mix

by pedrobonatto on 2013-10-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

First let me say I love Fiona Apple. She has an unique style that combines powerful vocals with beautiful piano and clever percussion. Blake Mills is a talented guitar player, but their styles DO NOT mix. People around me were asking "what is this?" anytime he'd start long and (to my taste) boring songs, while Fiona was relegated to a 'groupie' status on the background. Then back to some nice Fiona songs and cold water again: mellow Blake songs. Two other annoying facts: Fiona didn't play any of her classic songs and there was no encore... Even though folks were clapping and waiting for it. I was disappointed with the show. I hope she comes up with a new formula for next year.

    Fiona crossed the line

by Peejhey on 2013-10-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

Fiona Apple's always been eccentric but she crossed the line over into crazy. She looked really thind with her now short hair, and clothes that looked like she just rolled out of bed. You can be an angry young woman in your 20s but when you're pushing 40 still mad at your lover who should "kiss when you kiss, f**k when you f**k, say what you mean, say it loud enough" over and over and over more manically each time---well you're moving into crazy cat lady territory

    fiona yes, blake no

by wgIII on 2013-10-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

fiona apple is an intense, emotional artist who never disappoints. blake mills is an artist who has backed and supported fiona and who fiona seems to want to promote. he is a great guitarist but for me, his music is boring. his songs all sound the same. what a contrast. on one hand you have the intense, emotional, quirky fiona apple and then mills steps up to the mic and I just felt disappointment every time. just my opinion though as I heard many making positive comments in the audience. fiona was a little weird(er) too draped on a base drum and acting foolish. definitely not a fiona apple tour though as she didn't perform any songs from anything other than her latest cd. more like a fiona promotes blake tour. I will see her again, not on this tour though.

    Fiona still sounds amazing!

by MrFrinkles on 2013-10-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

Fiona may not have played any of her most popular music from the 90s but her new music is excellent, especially live!

Skinny, seething and sweet, Fiona still has it

by Bosmerchick on 2012-07-28Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I have been waiting a long time for someone to go and break Fiona Apple's heart so that she'd make another album, and boy oh boy did she get hurt this time. Fiona is possibly the thinnest person I have ever seen, and the rage, the power and the sound that came out of her little body was unfathomable. Located in the lovely Orpheum theatre, where just finding ones seats is a labyrinthine adventure, the downside- it was a seated venue and I was aching to move but was resigned to tap my feet and bop my head like a crazy on the bus. Fiona took the stage with ferocity. I have been listening to her music for six years now, and know her songs inside and out, but hearing it live was such a unique experience. Her older songs felt new and were backed with a terrific anger that was not there before. I sat in the audience and felt the waves of frisson wash over me. Live, Fiona does not hold back vocally; she gives us everything she's got. Fiona only addressed the crowd once or twice, and other than that she played straight through. The downsides? The concert was slow to start, and the opening act was members from her band, which was cool but I was excited to see Fiona. After their set, the lights came on and it was intermission which again, felt too long, although it was worth the wait. Fiona Apple is looking worse for the wear, her body is skin and bones and her hair looks dry and brittle. Determined by the amount of herself she pours into her music and the show I just saw, I don't know how much longer she will keep touring. I would recommend seeing her live while you still have the chance, even if you are not a fan of her music yet; You will be converted.

    Freakin' Awesome!

by Pipen on 2012-07-26Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Unfortunately, the audience turnout wasn't great. The theatre was at best 60% full, however those that had crappy cheap seats were upgraded for free and given floor tickets! Awesome for us fans that couldn't afford good seats. The show was amazing. Fiona's voice was so clear and she hit every note beautifully. The concert was so intense and emotional. Best show of the year, and an excellent come back performance!

    Amazing show, great venue

by EENN on 2012-07-26Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Fiona Apple is an amazing performer, delivering added value to the recorded albums. Sound balance was a bit off at first, but quickly corrected. I'd be much happier if the ticket said that the show starts at 9.30pm (which is when it started), rather than say 8pm, wait, have the boring warmup, then wait 20 more minutes.

Powerhouse Fiona and her Formidable Band!

by bardalba on 2012-07-26Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

awesome event, fiona's songs take on a whole new gear live, and we delivered with real punch. she featured her band as the starting act, with her guitarist taking on vocals and playing a mix of covers and original material. great way to gain respect for her band and notice them when they were playing her music. great event, only downside was they took off FAST at the end- had an adoring crowd and there was no chance at all of an encore.
