About

The longevity of music artists is a complex problem. Labels want you to produce more music to boost sales and streams, something less prolific musicians cannot achieve.

Unless you're Hugo Gruzman and Jimmy Lyell, that is.

The Flight Facilities, a duo of Australian producers Gruzman and Lyell, have been working against the grain for over a decade, releasing music at their speed and comfort and touring as they see fit.

Gruzman and Lyell first met as young adults in Sydney's DJ scene, repeatedly running into each other until they finally gave in to fate and decided to work together. Their first hit in 2010, the groovy lounge disco track "Crave You," was composed in Lyell's bedroom. Its popularity spread almost immediately, but rather than riding the wave of "Crave You," the pair decided to slow down their songwriting and release singles instead of an album.

Their goal was to connect with their audience more effectively, even telling music website The Line of Best Fit that they "never really planned to do an album."

Against the odds, the debut eventually came in the package of the album Down to Earth, released in 2014.

The duo demonstrated that electronic music could be many things at once, including a cacophony of sounds not limited to dreamlike ambient jams, funky rhythms, house, disco, pop, R&B, funk, and more.

In the five years following the release of their debut album, they released several one-off singles and eventually hit the world with their highly anticipated sophomore album, Forever, in 2021. Melodic, energetic and expansive, the album is a perfect metaphor for the Flight Facilities' live performances.

Lights, chanting and signature flight suits make up only a fraction of the experience at the duo's live performances. Their stage presence is so enveloping that you must believe this is what the music is all about for them. They want their music to feel personal, communal and all-encompassing, something that's hard to achieve through those pesky conventional studio albums.

Venue rating vs Performer rate very different

by Bricz on 2022-07-22The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Danforth Music hall is a dive the air inside is musty and the entire pleace needs a Reno everything about this place needs improvement, not to say you can't enjoy a concert but the venue needs a facelift The performance was decent, I'm getting old I found it took loud so loud it was almost taking away from the experience, next time I'll bring ear plugs. The vocalist had some rough patches, crowd was good, they were into it, and it was quite busy. Flight facilities were on point and they played their bangers. Overall it was a good night out.

These guys (plus Owl Eyes) know how to put on a show!

by Rich on 2022-07-21The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Great show, two encores. Their music is great to begin with but their transitions were that of experienced DJs. They know/know how to get the crowd going and Owl Eyes is a phenomenal singer and great performer.

    OG was much better

by Long time fan on 2022-07-09Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I I’ve been a long-time fan. I play tonnes of their old remixes still. Their first gig in Vancouver blew me away. This one was kind of (well a major) let down musically (visual effects were cool. Go back and play the Elizabeth Rose remix of Foreign Language and then listen to the one from this gig and see what what u think. Too much techno beats…lost a bit of magic.

Flight Facilities: did they even get an hour in!?!

by AKTrinity on 2015-03-10The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

I was so completely disappointed with the Flight Facility show. Music was decent what they were able to get in but they honestly played less than an hour and that includes an encore!?! Unbelievable. Music was done by 10:30 then it was time to hit the coat check line at the Danforth Music Hall!?! This lasted way longer thans the show. Don't think we managed to squeeze out of there just shy of midnight!?! Horrible experience. I would never recommend Flight Facilities nor the Danforth Music Hall, or at least never check a coat there. That line just made no sense at all, not sure how they haven't figured out a better system by now!?!

    Flying nowhere

by Flyinglow on 2015-03-10The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Super disappointed. The price was too high for the show and sound quality. I love the group, I love electronic music... but it's an offense for a live show when you find better quality and variety in your soundcloud. When they ask to get low (seriously ?!?!). I had a flashback from kindergarten .. But followers are followers. Specially if they have never been in a decent show before.
