Fred Eaglesmith isn't just a singer-songwriter; he's also a serious entertainer with a flair for emotional performances. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Country artist Fred Eaglesmith started writing songs and playing the guitar when he was 12 years old after being inspired by musicians like Elvis Presley and John Prine. He was raised in a rural farming family with eight siblings, and his humble Canadian roots laid the foundation for what would become an influential catalog of folk and rock tunes. Eaglesmith left home at just 15 years old to live on the road, hitchhiking and riding freight trains while playing for any crowd he could find. He eventually became a staple of the underground Canadian folk scene and started recording as an independent artist. He released his self-titled debut album in 1980 and has since recorded a whopping 20 studio albums. Highlights include 1997's Lipstick Lies and Gasoline and 2013's Tambourine -- a '60s-era rock record that channels Bob Dylan. Eaglesmith's songs have been recorded by several popular country artists including Miranda Lambert, Alan Jackson, and Toby Keith, a fact that underscores his enduring influence among the genre's top brass.

by Gladitsover on 2016-10-09Arden Theatre - St AlbertWould have been a half-decent concert if only he'd sung the songs we'd come out to hear. Instead, it was broken into two sections -- first was Fred and his wife, Tif Ginn. She can play many instruments. That's all I can say about that. Maybe she doesn't really sound as loud and bad as she did. Maybe the sound tech needs to be fired. Fred? Well, he mostly told lame, and sometimes inappropriate jokes. Just shut up and sing, Fred. Second part, they were joined by their band, but again, there was Tif Ginn beltin' them out. I don't know how long the band was with him, but there didn't seem to be a comfort or familiarity. It seemed awkward. Altogether, a fairly bizarre evening.

His shows are intimate, warm, funny and entertaining, and the music is fantastic. Fred is a showman and story teller. His band is the perfect compliment. And, on this tour, he had the Fabulous Ginn Sisters opening for, and then perfoming with him. You will not find better concert value for your dollar. Plus, the band will hang around and chat with you at the merchandise table afterward. How cool is that?
