    Amazing vibe...

by PattiD on 2014-08-31Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

The entire day was easy and amazing. Everything from the parking people to the bands were there to have a good time and make sure everyone who came out had fun. My son and I enjoyed ourselves so much. The music was incredible. My main reason for buying the tickets was to see Ray, but we completely enjoyed every musician. I have loved Bruce Cockburn's music since I was sixteen years old. It was so meaningful to hear him sing those songs from my youth. The Mohawk performers brought so much emotion - they touched our hearts. A special thank you to the stage hands and sound technicians - our enjoyment of the music was enhanced by your effort. This is absolutely the best sound I've experienced outdoors - well done! Thank you to everyone including the other fans - this was the best outdoor concert event we've ever attended - can't wait until next year!

    Another stellar day

by sunray on 2014-08-26Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

My third year at the festival and would have to say that this was my favourite. A great variety of artists. Was especially impressed with some new (to me) artists: Laura Cole, "Mouthpiece", and Alfie Smith. Also really enjoyed the symphony. Bruce Cockburn played to the audience with a greatest hits set. He is as phenomenal as ever. Although I'm not a huge fan of Ray LaMontagne's new album, his set was fantastic too. I was at a Ray Lomantagne concert in the States recently and was so disappointed by the sound at that particular outdoor venue, but the sound at the Greenbelt festival is always top-notch, as good, or better than any indoor venue. Can't wait to see who is coming next year! Hopefully Rocco DeLuca is back!

Gord Downie shines again and Rita rocks

by DJLAW on 2014-08-26Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

Not even the drizzle could dampen our spirits. We took two friends for their first time and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Ron Sexsmith was right on with his choice of songs and delivery. Laura Cole was a great surprise as to her voice quality, glad she got to do the second stage as well. Thought the variety from orchestra to fiddle music was an excellent addition this year and hope they return. Would like to see Daniel Lanois add a Canadian country singer or band next year to finish out the full circle of talent we can enjoy. We shall return.

    Bruce Coburn was amazing

by Elsworth on 2014-08-26Christie Lake Conservation Area - Dundas

Line up was great and music ran non stop, very smooth Crew members did a fantastic job on main stage and smaller one My only suggestion is more food choices with more food trucks or booths. One of the vendors ran out at 630 pm which isnt a good thing after you wait in line If you go to the festival with no cooler or snacks and cant get a bite to eat there, its a long day

    Great Event.

by Wesleync on 2014-05-10Christie Lake - Dundas

Its nice to have an event AWAY from Toronto to begin with. Christie Lake is a wonderful place to host such an event, easy access from all directions, plus they have the exiting of the venue done so there is no traffic congestion, I have attended all 3 years so far, and the 2013 show was the most fun day even if Neil Young & Crazy Horse cancelled. Stuff happens. Now to my review, Sunny warm day, the lake was about body temperature and the smells of about 20 food vendors filled the air and mixed with the music wafting from the stage to fill the park with a great mixture of great sounding smells. We took advantage of doing some paddle boarding in the lake, a company from Guelph I think, set up shop and charged a very decent price to use their equipment to try something that most of us have never tried. The music kept pumping out as they set up a middle stage for acts to play on while the main stage is being re setup for the next act. Also if you are in the mood to walk around and do some shopping or browsing of local arts or crafts or information booths set up about farming and things going on in and around the local communities, well they have more than enough to keep you occupied until the next act comes on the big stage. Once you walk around, you will find yourself walking around the grounds again, realizing that you passed up a lot of nice things that you might just change your mind about and get on your second trip. I will be going in 2014 for the 4th year in a row. Its that good. The only complaint I have is that there are way to much space lost to lawn chairs. Yea its nice to sit on a lawn chair or blanket, but the size of the crowd with their chairs and blankets spreads a football field back from the stage, if there was no lawn chairs or blankets allowed the crowd would be no farther than 40 yards from the stage and everybody would be able to see great, but that's not what im suggesting, yes allow lawnchairs or blankets but the first 20 yards in front of the stage should be for standing only. Yea, standing only, its only fair. If it was not for the lawnchairs taking up way to much space in front I would give it a 5star rating, after all, these people on their chairs do not squish their chairs together, they spread out with 1 or 2 feet between all their chairs and it would be rude of me to just walk up and stand in the space between their chairs, it could start a fight but it really pisses me off that I have to stand way back with so much wasted space by ignorant people wasting space.

    Amazing day!

by hockeyhair69 on 2014-05-09Christie Lake Conservation Area - Flamborough, Ontario

There's lots of silly reviews that are basing their bias on specific acts, or that the venue/weather was "too" nice and shouldn't be considered part of the experience. Here's the deal; it's a summer festival that's about more than just the music. The day itself is amazing; the music fills the air, there's great food, great displays/vendors, a lake to swim in. What the ticket pays for is the overall experience. Yes I could go to Christie Lake for $10 some other time; but could I swim in the lake with my kids while the Arkells provide the soundtrack live? No... Could I go another time and eat incredible local food while Emmy Lou performs? No... This event is a sum of all its parts. It's more than a concert. It's a sublime way to spend a late summer day, is super family friendly, and was a highlight of the summer. Lastly; Neil Young dropping out last year...get over it people. The event was more than him, and any real Neil fan (despite initial disappointment) should know that it's not as easy as him just "pulling together a set" for an evening. He honoured Crazy Horse (the other half of the bill, I'll remind you) by not trying to find a sub or continue solo.

Who is really posting these reviews?!?

    by TimN24 on 2013-09-20Christie Lake - Hamilton

I'm pretty sure I was there on the day and time noted and don't know how anyone could give this thing 4-5 starts. Well maybe for the weather, but that's not controlled by the promotors. Sure the venue was nice, but you can go there with your family for $10 a car on any given day, in addition being an outdoor venue you have to bring your own chairs. Okay the bands did their job but none really captured the crowd except the Arkells who you could have seen for free at McMaster University the same week. The farmer's market was nice but there are dozens in the area that don't require admission. What was $100 paid for? About $50 worth of talent. Would have preferred a full refund, could see Daniel Lanois had his pants stuffed with my money during his set.
