Here Come the Mummies, incredibly entertaining!

by YakovLevi on 2011-06-13Tralf - Buffalo

Here Come the Mummies, live in Buffalo, undoubtedly one of the best live shows that I've ever seen, and I am saying this without exaggerating. At under $30/ticket, in a relatively small venue, they gave us a big-budget stadium performance worth $300. My wife and I planned to stand close to the stage for the opening song or two, and then sit down for the rest.....but the show started with a bang that never stopped exploding, and we could never pull ourselves away or even stop dancing. Here Come the Mummies was so full of energy, utilizing the entire venue: the stage, the floor, the audience, as their performance space - the 9 band members, obviously sweating through their mummy bandages non-stop, were constantly jumping around, running, getting crazy with different props (like freak flags, extra costumes, etc), interacting with the audience, getting us involved in their dance moves, doing some complicated choreographed moves (9 guys running wild on a tiny stage, while playing their instruments at the same time, and they never crashed into each other once). They never played a single slow song that night, that is my only complaint...but every song they played live sounded great, even a few tracks that I sometimes skip on their CDs sounded great live. This is a band that deserves to be much more famous and there must be millions of potential fans for their kind of funky, melodic, jazzy music and their fun, funny and high energy stage show - why haven't more people heard of them? Anyhow, after the show, the Mummies came into the audience to hug us, and give autographs. Before leaving, my wife and I made sure to buy their live DVD. We watched part of it two days later and it truly felt like we were reliving great memories of a vacation. In closing, I'd like to say that seeing the Mummies live is a show any music fan would enjoy, even if you've never heard them before, because it's so visually entertaining and so interactive, that it stands on its own as a great theatrical performance.
