    Disappointment

by Bearwolf on 2011-10-19Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

We purchased tickets to see the Turtles and Zombies as advertsied. Neither group appeared. In fact there were no 'groups' only indviduals from previous groups. Talented people albeit but not what we bought tickets for. Label us very diappointed!

Hippiefest 2011 : Hamiltons best well kept secret.

by scoltart on 2011-10-18Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

The show was incredible , Starting off with Felix Cavaliere doing a number of his songs from the Young Rascals followed by Rick Derringer , Mark Farner and closing the show was Dave Mason. The music was great to hear all the favorites from years gone by . The back up band that were with them were incredible . The crowd were into it right from the start singing and dancing in the hall .... unfortunatly the crowd was small ? due to lack of advertising i presume ... too bad ... but this did not take away from any of the acts willingness to please ...they played like it was a full house . It was great to see all of the acts although missing was Gary Wright ( on original bill ) . I would go to see it again if ever comes this way again.

    Hippiefest 2011; Unforgettable

by CdnCzar on 2011-10-18Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

Hippiefest last night at Hamilton Place with. Real histrionics of rock with some very retro fans from the 60's and 70's : Felix Cavallero and the Young Rascals, Rick Derringer from the McCoys , creator of Hang On Sloopy and genius guitarist, Marc Trumbo from Grand Funk Railroad, incredible showman and singer and Dave Mason from Traffic and member of the Rock and Roll HOF. 3 hours of hit rock numbers from these guys kept me awake till 2 am. Yikes!

Hippiefest! A blast from the past!

by Rylander on 2011-10-18Hamilton Place Theatre - Hamilton

Hippiefest on Sunday. Felix Cavaliere opened the show and was awesome. The backup band was tight as anything. Really pumped up the crowd with Rascals tunes and a medley of old R&R/R&B. Then Rick Derringer...Still Alive & Well but looking rather like an upright 4'11" lizard in bell-bottom jeans playing a Les Paul. He can still play, but here's where it really got weird, although Felix played "People Got to Be Free" for all the servicemen and women overseas...Rick turned it into a long monologue and it just continued throughout the night...celebrating the right of American soldiers to bring freedom to everyone in the world (oh, and Canadian troops too! Yeah, almost forgot) A break (funny thing...the announcer / host was only present on tape..."Welcome to Hippiefest 2011. We seek to bring you the best music we can...blahblahblah"..."thank you and good night...stop by the merch counter and buy a CD and a T-shirt") Well there WAS NO CD/T-shirt merch counter...there was a flea market stand selling Indian scarves and patchouli oil! HaHaHa! Then Mark Farner who really energized things. Never a big Grand Funk fan but I'll say this...for a little guy he has boundless energy. The cock'o'the walk posturing was funny but endearing! Dave Mason brought a couple extra musicians...so it took a little while to set up...but he played spot on versions of We Just Disagree, Dear Mr. Fantasy, all Along the Watchtower, and Only You Know and I Know...then Farner and Derringer came out to sing backup on Feelin' Alright...Rick and Dave played a long guitar solo[s] and the disembodied voice announced thanks and goodnight...We had a lotta laughs and the music was fun. The crowd was delightful...haven't seen so much long grey hair all together in one place ever...

    A legendary lineup!

by Totofan on 2011-08-14Las Vegas Hilton Theater - Las Vegas

Hippiefest 2011 was a great 2.5 hour concert that was highlighted by performances from Felix Cavaliere's Rascals, Rick Derringer (The McCoys), Gary Wright, Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad), and Dave Mason (Traffic). Each artist performed at least one tune from their 1960s catalogs, when most of them got established. Then, it was some classics from the 70s, with some of the performers playing new tunes as well. The supporting band was great so all song renditions were very true to the originals. Highlights (for me) included: Groovin', Good Lovin' (Rascals), Hang on Sloopy, Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo (Rick Derringer), Dream Weaver, Love is Alive (Gary Wright), I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home) (Mark Farner), Let if Flow, We Just Disagree, All Along the Watchtower (Dave Mason). Classic rock fans will not be disappointed!
