Not Nine Inch Nails, but Still Amazing!

by JackieH on 2013-04-29Sound Academy - Toronto

I have been a fan of Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor for more than half of my life. That being said, I knew this was not going to be a Nine Inch Nails show. The rest of the crowd, maybe they didn't know that though! So many fanboys/girls! So many silly screams of "I Love You Trent!" But, on to the review of the actual show. The light show -- amazing. But, what would you expect when there is a member of the group tasked with controlling the lights. The sound -- good for the Sound Academy (not my favourite venue). The sightlines at the Sound Academy always stink, but I was able to see pretty well and since the crowd was pretty subdued, I wasn't being trampled on all night long. The setlist consisted of mostly songs off of the album and some from the EP. I enjoy the songs of the album more, so I was happy. I had heard mixed reviews of Mariqueen's vocals, but I feel she held her ground next to her famous husband. Overall, if we ever see another How to Destroy Angels tour, I will be there!

The show was great, excellent visuals and great performance. However, horrible seats, and VIP section was anything but that.

Awesome concert! The music was really impressive live, and the visuals were really sweet. It was pretty cool seeing Trent at such a small venue.

HTDA is SO MUCH better live!

by ninjaredridinghood on 2013-04-27Sound Academy - Toronto

I have high expectations of any show that involves Trent Reznor, and I was pleasantly surprised that Mariqueen really took over the show. Her performance was stunning and beautiful! The light show was incredible- not to mention super cool! HTDA live is substantially better than their recordings! This is a must see show! I feel bad that the Toronto audience was so terrible. Take the time to enjoy their performance and don't add your own. We all paid money to see HTDA, not to hear other's lewd input.

Fantastic visuals to accompany great music

    by Sushi666 on 2013-04-27Sound Academy - Toronto

How to Destroy Angels is a very tight band musically. Mariqueen has a beautiful voice but needs to work on her stage presence. The lights were stunning and added to the performance, which is something I've come to expect from a show where Trent is involved.

Amazing sound, lighting, fx, songs, and performance. Don't miss this band... Required watching for any fans on NIN or edgy electronica. Very artistic and yet futuristic at the same time.

    Amaz-za-zing displays

by Stroodlemuffin on 2013-04-27Sound Academy - Toronto

Blew. My. Mind. Verdict: Trent, stop hogging the spotlight. The audience was terrible as well; need to learn to shaddup during the more intimate songs.

    excellent time

by Rydia on 2013-04-27Sound Academy - Toronto

Went to see this with my best friend who is a huge TR fan. Had a great time. THE GOOD: Sound was great, visual display was extremely cool, the setlist was interesting and varied. We were standing right up front at the stage, about 10 feet away from Trent Reznor, and seeing him rock out was an experience I will never forget. I had originally wanted VIP tickets but I'm glad I didn't get them because the VIP seating was up and far back, so I believe you got a better view from standing. The rotating screen is really, really cool and made for some fantastic imagery. It reminds me of a burlesque show, they tease you and tease you, you can almost make out the band, you start to wonder if they're ever going to take it off, and then FINALLY, the screen parts and it's go time. THE BAD: The opening act was not very good, and took forever to get started. When they finally stopped, it took a very long time for the headliners to setup (after seeing the 4 layer screen I understand but wow, what a wait!) The concert was supposed to start at 8pm, HTDA took the stage shortly after 10pm. THE VENUE: It's in the middle of nowhere, we took public transit down to Front Street then walked, and it was a LONG way. The beer was extremely overpriced ($15.50 for two domestic beer?, the women's bathroom had just one toilet and no paper towel. There was a lot of shoving and rudeness from patrons once the headliners took the stage.

    HTDA rocks!

by Aruald on 2013-04-27Sound Academy - Toronto

The How to Destroy Angels show at the Sound Academy was amazing. The music and vocals were impeccable and the lighting was out of this world. One of the best concert experiences I've had in a long time.
