About

Hugh Laurie is nothing if not multitalented. Known for his acting work on the shows Blackadder, Jeeves and Wooster, and House, Hugh Laurie is also a skilled writer, director, comedian,  and musician. Laurie began studying piano at the age of six and later took up a range of instruments, including guitar, piano, drums, saxophone, and harmonica. He has shown off his musical abilities during his acting career, particularly on shows such as A Bit of Fry & Laurie and House, as well as during his hosting stint on Saturday Night Live in 2005.
He plays keyboard and sings vocals for Band From TV, a charity-driven rock group based in Los Angeles. He also collaborated with Meat Loaf after the artist appeared with him in an episode of House. After this appearance, Laurie played the piano as a guest artist on Meat Loaf's Hang Cool Teddy Bear album of 2010. He also performed and co-wrote the blues comedy song “Sperm Test in the Morning” for Maybe Baby. While starring in House, Laurie has also weaved in several musical storylines and played a range of classic instruments, including Les Paul and Gibson Flying V guitars. His character also owns a Hammond B-3 organ and plays the introduction to Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum in one episode. Laurie also plays a doctor in Kate Bush's video for the song “Experiment IV.”
Laurie has also recorded his own musical collection and made an album for Warner Bros Records in 2011 called Let Them Talk, which was released in Germany and France, featuring a range of collaborations with artists that included Dr. John, Tom Jones and Irma Thomas. That same year, Laurie closed the Cheltenham Jazz Festival with a jazz quintet to great applause and good reviews. He also talked about his love for jazz and the music of New Orleans in the ITV documentary, Perspectives. He released a second studio album, Didn't It Rain, in 2013. He has released three singles to date: You Don't Know My Mind in 2011, and Winin' Boy Blues and Wild Honey in 2013.

Far too much talent in one person!! wink wink

    by keltoigirl9 on 2014-05-26Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I have admired Hugh Laurie's work(actintg that is) as far back as "Jeeves & Wooster"(a early 1990's British series) Having now turned his full attention to his music carreer, I expected the same dedication and performance. I was not disappointed!! He is a force to be reckoned with.Had the audience in the palm of his hand within minutes! Is he the best jazz/blues(ie.) singer I've heard..no...........but he doesn't have to be.He has a sound of his own and is an absolutely brilliant piano player. Not half bad on the quitar either! The Copper Bottom Band are superb musicians who shine on their own, and his talents in acting and comedic timing serve him well on stage. All in all, a brilliant time was had by all...............

    Hugh Laurie has astounding talent

by Caro on 2014-05-26Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Hugh Laurie himself was relaxed, funny and supremely talented. The band is awesome with each player having high level talent on a variety of instruments. The lady from Guetemala had a pure velvet voice. I have heard this phrase before but never heard a singer who brings the phrase to mind.

    The Best!

by charn on 2014-05-24Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Not knowing what to expect, but being a Hugh Laurie fan for many years pre-"House" (Black Adder, Jeeves & Wooster, etc.) I knew he was musically talented. This show exceeded all expectations. The Copper Bottom Band is an amazingly talented group and were given equal billing with Hugh on stage which made for a wonderful ensemble performance for the evening. His stage presence, wonderful sense of humour and graciousness only added to an unforgettable show. I would go again.

I enjoyed everything about this evening. Hugh Laurie is obviously a very talented guy with a passion for this music. And the Copper Bottom Band is wonderful. The sound was great & they managed to create a fun, intimate atmosphere. The two women vocalists were both spectacular, singing individually or together. Great fun. Hope they come back!

Classic Music Not to be Missed!

by RhodaL on 2014-05-24Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

This was a fantastic concert - a high-energy show that is fun and fills the theatre, yet feels like everyone's just jamming in your living room. Both Hugh Laurie and the Copper Bottom Band are excellent and insanely talented.

    Surprise! Surprise!

by katzenjammer on 2014-05-23Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I've been thirsty for a night of music like Hugh Laurie and Copper Bottom to come thru Vancouver. I'm hard to please when it comes to live music, but I wished this show had lasted forever. There were times when I wished the Hugh Laurie would have just played music without talking so much, but I got used to it (a break from the howler and whistler sitting to my right). He's a great band leader, and he showed off all of his side "men." It would be difficult for me to say who enchanted me the most. Rarely do we hear deep throat female blues singers like Sister Jean McClain, so: what a treat it was to hear her bellow the blues sufficiently. Vince Henry's captivating reed instruments and harmonica work were proficient and at times elevating. Expecting the blues and being offered blues with a New Orleans flavour was a surprise; it still left me thirsty a good solid blue act to come thru Vancouver (now that there's no sign of the Yale returning to its former incarnation). St. James Infirmary filled that need, and I just wished there were more numbers like that.

    Hugh Laurie and his band

by Snooc on 2014-05-23Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I had purchased their CD previously, kind of curious. It was excellent. Real New Orleans blues and jazz. It is unusual at first but grows on you. When I noticed he was coming to Vancouver with the Copper Bottom Band, there was no way I was going to miss it. I took my adult son and we both enjoyed it so much. Hugh was so entertaining and had a wonderful rapport with the audience. It was a packed house. Who knew....he was a man of so many talents!
