    Great Performance and Great Venue

by Simplesam on 2009-08-08Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

India Arie came with energy and soul at the Queen Lizzy Theatre which was also a fairly hidden gem intimate venue in Toronto. I wish she performed a bit more of her older material but the event was great overall!

    Simply Amazing

If you're an India.Arie Fan, you would've loved this concert. Laura Izabor opened for her, and she is stunning and incredibly talented. India.Arie then proceeded to play some songs from her first, second and third album, most from her third. She walked into the crowd for a bit....and there was a special appearance by Gramps Morgan. Great concert. Good vibes. I left feeling very happy.

Ms. India Arie, the best an artist can be!

by IndiaArieFan on 2009-07-18Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

From start to finish the show was excellent. The opening act, Laura Izibor, is a refreshing new breath into the neo-soul scene. Her song intros were hilarious and her relaxed attitude created an intimate feel. Already a fan, India’s performance exceeded my expectations. She interacted well with the audience and is comfortable enough as an artist to go with the flow and improvise parts of her show. She performed numerous songs from her most recent album but also incorporated a number of her earlier classics into the set. The audience created a positive ambiance and the displayed enthusiasm made it apparent that many in attendance were dedicated India Arie fans. Overall, an excellent show of great quality and length. Next time she’s in town make sure to grab tickets!

The concert was a good 2 hours but at the end of it, I wished that there was more because it didn't feel like it was very long. That's how great a concert it was. Her music was smooth, her back-up singers were smooth too. All around great concert.

India Arie - The tonic we needed

by Wiilow on 2009-07-15Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

Intimate and inspiring is India Arie in concert, which almost borders on being spiritual, as she opened the concert with a song/prayer for the adoring crowd. The audience seemed to know every word to every song and as an added bonus they/we sang harmoniously too! We felt touched being in India.arie's presence, and her voice is such a soothing and melodic tonic. She was fully present and connected to the crowd, a treat for the senses with her smooth voice, her gorgeous flowing outfits and her blissful connection to her musicians, to each of us in the audience and to the universe!

    Unforgetable

by 4real on 2009-07-13Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

I thoroughly enjoyed India Arie's concert. The last time I saw her was back in 2003 when she was touring in Toronto. A good buddy of mine and I went and we were quite impressed with the show she put on, despite the lengthy delay we endured. She did most of the songs from her Acoustic Soul and Voyage to India albums, plus a few other numbers not on her album. I could have listened to her all night! This time around, when I heard she would be returning to Toronto for yet another concert, I knew I had to go again. I already had her most recent albums -- Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship and Testimony: Vol. 2 Love & Politics -- two months prior to the concert and absolutely loved the material. So, I decided to go, along with another friend of mine. She gave the audience a good taste of all her work to-date, picking choice songs from all of her albums. Her voice seemed to hold the crowd spellbound as she mesmerized us with captivating ballads such as "River Rise" and at other times she had us on our feet with rousing renditions like "Brown Skin". She has such a beautiful instrument -- powerful yet soft and sultry. She also played a mean guitar! The thing I loved most about India's performance (and about India herself) is that she is so humble and down to earth, yet so tremendously gifted. Throughout the concert, she elicited several "we love you India's" and echoes of "I love your voice" from the crowd. There was never a moment where she got carried away or "high on herself". She always thanked the crowd graciously. At one point she stopped and explained that she never imagined she'd be performing publicly as a recording artist, as all of her material was composed while "looking out of her window" at home. All in all, I would definitely recommend her concerts to anyone. India's music can be best described as a potpourri of different musical styles within a soul/R&B base. Her music appeals to the young and "old" crowd. She is a refreshing alternative from the masses of pretentious, shallow R&B artists selling the tired, over-hyped sex and money themes. Her lyrics are intelligent, thoughtful and imaginative. Listening to her is like reading a "Chicken Soup for the Soul" book -- you feel refreshed and uplifted afterward. Anyone who attends a concert of hers will not be disappointed. I just wished my camera batteries had worked that night. I missed out on some great footage (sigh).
