One of the great events in festival history
by Valia on 2014-06-22Lula Lounge - TorontoWhat a night! Two great bands plus a reunion, plus the introduction of a brilliant new group equals pure joy. When the Colombian-Canadian-American drummer and leader Memo Acevedo left for New York, Toronto lost a treasure and New York gained one, and we lost the wonderful collaboration of Memo and pianist-composer Dave Restivo. This was their first performance together in Toronto in 18 years. The audience begged them never to stop playing--one person called out "We've got all night." Just when we started to lament the end of that great concert, in walked Jane Bunnett and a bunch of powerhouse Cuban musicians--the new all-woman band called Maqueque. I can't wait for the next opportunity to hear both bands again!
