    Amazing live!

by Shablamo on 2014-11-03Festival Place - Sherwood Park

Was a big fan of his voice back during the days of the Philosopher Kings. He's still an excellent live performer, and the concert was very good. Would go and watch him perform again.

    Jarvis Church was Unforgettable!!!

by Garth55555 on 2013-03-08National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Was very impressed with his talent as it takes a lot for me to get excited. I found myself on the edge of my chair participating in the excitement of the crowd. I drove 4 hrs to see Church and would drive even further. He truly puts our a great show, you can tell Church loves to connect with his audience. I loved how he smiles when you cheer him one..

Jarvis Church delivered a great night!

by NewJarvisFan on 2013-03-07National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Went to see Jarvis Church on a whim (was not familiar with the Philosopher Kings) because I like the intimate venue of Stage 4 at the National Arts Centre. Amazing night. He covered Sam Cooke (but in a way that was fresh, yet still had the traditional sound in it) in the first set and then his own music (which was great) in the second half of the night. Tight backup singers, great piano player, superb stagecraft and beautiful, beautiful music. It's been a week and I'm still humming a couple of the tunes. Perfect for a date night with just about anyone--or a great night of music with friends that will energize you with melody and magic music. I will make a point of seeing Jarvis Church from now on!

Worshipped at the Altar of Jarvis Church

by camerawithmyeyes on 2013-03-04National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Jarvis singing Sam Cooke was phenomenal. He and 'the soul station' were on pointe Saturday night at NAC's Fourth Stage. First half of the show was strictly Sam Cooke covers, as featured on Church's latest album, The Soul Station. Backed by 1 pianist and 3 fantastic male singers, he sung some of the best, Steal Away, Cupid, the powerful 'A Change is Gonna Come', and We're Havin' A Party...which judging by audience reaction and willingness to sing and clap along, we were all ready to have that party all night long. The great thing for me, being a Philosopher Kings fan was after intermission when Jarvis started pulling songs from his own playbook. All the better. No one wanted the night to end, and during his finale, the party continued as they pulled audience members onto the stage to dance. Jarvis' smooth voice is distinct. I could probably pick it out of a line-up, and the songs he chose showed off that range. Big applause to his back-up singers too who were each featured in a song during a meddley. The NAC fourth stage is one of my favourite venue's for music in Ottawa because of the intimacy. With it's cafe-style seating and low ceilings, it feels like you're in an intimate setting, that the artists are singing right to you.
