by heyjo on 2010-08-27Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

Big Dave McClean put on a cool blues performance along with his band. Very entertaining and relaxing on a beautiful warm August night. He obviuosly shows passion for his music!

    Big Dave McLean was excellent

by DeeAnne on 2010-08-27Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

Not only was the music topnotch but the rooftop of the Winnipeg Art Gallery is spectacular. A wonderful way to spend a summer's evening.

U of M Jazz Camp faculty

by Inky on 2010-08-20Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

Steve and Anna Lisa Kirby and guests delivered two swinging sets that had everyone grooving in their seats. The music was flawless and for a moment I felt like I was in New York City. The only sour note came from WAG management and Storm Catering who have neglected to address a provincial liquor licencing issue with the result that concert goers who want a drink are obliged to purchase a barbecue dinner for $18.00 or so otherwise they will not be served.

    Awesome, relaxing evening!

by Gigigigi on 2010-08-20Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

We greatly enjoyed Jazz on the Rooftop. It's always such a treat to listen to the talents of Steve Kirby and his amazingly talented band. It can get a little cool on the roof top so bring a jacket, but it was certainly a gorgeous setting for such a nice evening.

    Boring!!!

by agoodwin on 2010-08-20Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

I thought they would at least pay some mainstream jazz. Instead all we heard was music they wanted to hear. I'm sorry but the music chosen should be more familiar to the audience so they come back year after year. I literally walked out midway through the performance because it was so bad.

Unfortunate the show moved indoors as the weather stayed great. Music was greatd but, seats in auditorium were/are not condusive to comfort and we left at intermission. As well this policy regarding the dining room liquor license held by Storm and the requirement to purchase the dinner in order to have an alcoholic beverage is archaic. and the food was not particularly palatable. The purchase requirements are both confusing and frustrating to patrons. We have been to other events at the WAG and have been able to purchase liquor without food. What gives? Change the license. While we might attend a rooftop event again, for sure we won't have dinner.

    Smoooooth Jazz

by JazzFan100 on 2010-08-13Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

Walle et al were spot on. The music was hypnotically soothing and relaxing, even the uptempo bits. Great crowd interaction and he even raffled himself to play at someone's house...how cool is that. Well worth the price of admission.

    Excellent music, poor hospitality

by Moonglow on 2010-07-30Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

Loved Swing Soniq in spite of Greg's belaboured attempts to recruit "back up" singers from the crowd - only young and beautiful need apply! Stellar musicians - doesn't get better. However, disappointed that on a lovely evening out, we were not able to enjoy a glass of wine on the rooftop because we didn't participate in the BBQ (which we've tried before and found rather lacking!). Perhaps the restaurant can apply for a permit for such occasions?

    Janice Finlay's Hardbop Herd sizzles!!

by clee on 2010-07-16Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

Janice never lets you down and this hardbop group really solidifies that. She has incorporated the strength of people like Rick and Dave and manages to find and include some of the most brilliant young musicians around. Hardbop music has a bit of a different groove and not just anybody could pull it off like they did. That takes extraordinary talent and musicality. Janice is most gracious and always gives everyone an opportunity to shine!

    Walle Larson was Great

by JDMAN on 2009-09-02Winnipeg Art Gallery - Winnipeg

Glad to be at this unbelievable show. Music was great as well as the food and company. You could trell that everybody there was into the tunes as the show was going on. The vocals were undescribable when she performed her songs. Would deffinetly attend one of his shows without question. Thanks
