About

JOEL PLASKETT EMERGENCY IN CONCERT:

Quirky Canadian indie folk hero Joel Plaskett has been bringing smiles to fans' faces with his clever, upbeat songs and feel-good live shows for more than two decades. Plaskett and his backing band The Emergency are veritable heroes in the Great White North -- they've got several prestigious Juno and Polaris award nominations under their belt -- and it's easy to see why at their wacky, wonderful concerts. Whether they're rocking out with the galloping "Nowhere With You" or getting ticket buyers dancing with the infectiously catchy "Fashionable People", Joel Plaskett Emergency always deliver a boisterous concert experience full of eclectic indie folk tunes.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Joel Plaskett spent his formative years in the small fishing village of Lunenburg, Novia Scotia, where he was surrounded by the instruments and record collection of his musician father. He formed his first band Thrush Hermit at age 13, going on to release two albums with the band before forming Neuseiland and releasing an album in 1999. Plaskett made his solo debut that same year with the album In Need of Medical Attention, but it wasn't until he formed The Emergency and released Down at the Khyber in 2001 that his career really took off. The record earned the band a Juno Award nomination for Best New Artist, ushering in a period of critical and commercial success for the band that included 2003's Truthfully, Truthfully and 2007's Ashtray Rock, a shortlist nominee for the year's Polaris Music Prize. Since then Plaskett has won more than a dozen East Coast Music Awards, opened up for Sir Paul McCartney, and entertained fans around the world on perennial tours.

    Amazing Show at the Danforth!

by Aleesh on 2015-05-25The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Joel Plaskett is always great - I have seen him in big venues and small venues, and each time he's been incredible. His set at the Danforth Music Hall with the Emergency was no exception. They played a good mixture of old and new, Joel Plaskett and Joel Plaskett Emergency songs. And they kept everyone entertained in between. With respect to the venue the acoustics were great, and there was no bad place to stand. Hghly recommend seeing Joel Plaskett if he's ever in your area (I know I will!) and catching shows at the Danforth Music Hall.

Joel Plaskett & the Horshoe - a Beautiful Thing!

by IndieSue on 2012-12-17The Horseshoe Tavern - Toronto

With a classic venue like the Horseshoe Tavern celebrating 65 wonderful years - you go in knowing you will be well entertained. Joel Plaskett, a charismatic and talented live performer appears in his glory - no matter the venue - but managed to bring his level of stage comfort and crowd connection to a whole new level at day 2 of 5 shows at the Horseshoe. It was a great event - and a free Keiths as you walked in the door made the experience all the more basked in Holiday cheer!

    JPE and guests amazing

by SarahSMB on 2012-12-16The Horseshoe Tavern - Toronto

Although the opening band was not memorable, Joel Plasket Emergency put on an excellent show. Special guest Peter Elkas and a fiddler were added extras to an already amazing show. Also saw the show on Wednesday night and the engery was very different - the opening act, Frank Holtz was awesome. Highly recommend as a live show.

    Such energy...

by RWFan on 2012-12-15The Horseshoe Tavern - Toronto

He started a little late; but I will just have to keep that in mind next time I go to the Horseshoe. I love live music and Joel Plaskett provided some of the best. He is talented and his music is eclectic so it will appeal to multiple audiences. I am close to 60 years old and even I could appreciate his music. I will definitely go to see him again; but this time on a weekend.
