    Absolutely hilarious!

by Kaidah on 2018-04-16National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Age has lost John Cleese none of the wit or humor we know and love him for. Like a fine wine, he only seems to get better. Intelligent, thought provoking, and absolutely hilarious. A touch political, but who isn't these days? The show was a bit shorter than I expected at only an hour and a half, but absolutely worth the trip up from Toronto. As a long time fan I'm very glad to have gotten a chance to see him live.

    Not worth a plug nickel

by DeJan on 2018-04-14National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I was expecting a stand-up comedy or great fun from great comedian. John Cleese prepared monologue and was mostly reading it as such . Most of the time you could not even understand what he was saying. There is nothing funny about how world is going belly up . Especially not fun how Mr.Cleese is explaining it from his perspective. Mocking president of USA and saying how Great Britain politics is great is not such fun. Saying how in Sarajevo ,where he got Honorary Heart of Sarajevo reward as a great comedian , snipers surrounded Sarajevo and people suffered from crazy Serbs, was not funny at all . In a war time there are always two sides of a story. Mr Cleese explained how people these days are mostly stupid because they are laughing to jokes that are actually stupid. Get the conclusion yourself . In his eyes we were all stupid listening what he had to say about YES Mr. Cleese . I was stupid dragging my wife to see you and what you have to say. I was stupid staying in that theater until the end. But I did because I wanted to see old fart and what he has to say about world and to get a few laughs. . One British saying how world is bad . That was funny ! Great Britain through the centuries gave "democracy" to the whole world better than USA will give "democracy" to the rest of the world. For these two great allies Adolf Hitler was nothing but a little boy. Mr Cleese reads too much of a news paper and watches too much of a TV News. How a man can not be stupid if he got married three times ? Mr. Cleese . See you in Monty Python . Stay at home and read some books. World is going belly up and we know it .

A Chance to See a Legend

by Mikey0874 on 2018-04-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

We thoroughly enjoyed seeing John Cleese. I was surprised by how profoundly philosophical he was. I guess I was expecting more like a comedy review, but instead I was forced to think! I was glad for it, though.

    Sorry John Cleese

by Shesh on 2018-04-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Sorry but this show wasn't as hoped for. His rant was good but lacked what (I think) most were hoping for esp some Monty Python skits. Unfortunately and terribly overpriced for such an excellent entertainer with a short, rambling monologue

    Worth Every Penny

by pharmerphil on 2018-04-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Totally enjoyable show and especially the format. Mr Cleese delivered several important messages and thru the use of his comedic style. The host (Dylan Black), was super as well.

    Comfort level

by Gauthed on 2018-04-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The first part of the show was was John standing at the podium going through his rehearsed program resulting in a stiff delivery. I would have preferred seeing him siting down as in the second part where his natural talent of quick wit would be of benefit. I was expecting more of an analysis of various stages of his career and of plays, movies etc.Whe he did the question/snaswer part he seemed more at ease. I discovered that his natural walk is the same as in his acting life.

    Incredible Piece of Realist Theatre.

by Pepperpot on 2018-04-11National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Didn’t really know what to expect from this show, but was happily surprised by Cleese’s brave new direction: realist theatre. Cleese’s performance was an incredible portrayal of a grumpy, insufferable bore. Every note was pitch perfect: summaries of recent books he had read that he insisted were life changing, complaints about one’s hotel room being too big, and non-sensical tangents that hinted at a racist and sexist world view. Brilliant. Ignore the one-star reviews for this show. Those are from people who are unable to change with an artist’s growth: they were still expecting Cleese to be funny.
