Symphony for Smiles overflowed with generosity!!!

by Anonymous on 2009-10-28Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

The house (Chan Centre) was packed. The patrons were full of gratitude on this rainy Vancouver Sunday. Bill Richardson was his usual gracious self, not wanting to detract from Bramwell Tovey's introductions and commentaries. The music was inspiringly played, and provided entertainment for everyone. Then, the Parker cousins ripped the keys off the two pianos, not only in the Mozart double piano concerto, but also in the three encores, one of which included Bramwell Tovey himself! It was a wonderful opportunity for informed Vancouverites to contribute to an independant, effective cause.

    Notes of Compassion Concert

by musicalmia on 2009-10-26Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

Two generations of our family attended this VSO concert featuring concert pianist cousins Jon-Kimura and Ian Parker. We enjoyed every moment of the concert; the selections were ideal, with excellent variety. The promo video which shows the work of Health for Humanity in Guatemala was timely, not aggressive, and I came away full of enthusiasm for this wonderful cause. 5 stars for all of the above. The Chan Centre is a different story: 1) the lobby is not large enough to hold a capacity audience, especially when half is it is taken up with a pre-concert buffet; 2) there appears to be only one washroom- and it is on the ground floor; 3) in order to allow anyone to go past, one must stand up (good for preventing thrombosis, I suppose!) Rose Garden parking was a dream to enter, a nightmare to exit.
