    Professional and vibrant

by Vinny on 2020-02-16National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I took my grandson, who loved the performance. I however am not really a classical music fan. I enjoyed the range of instruments, though, and might have been more engaged if we had seen the visuals with the Amanda portion of the program.

    mostly local choir

by fuzzi on 2018-01-03National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I thought I bought tickets to see Joshua Bell. The whole first half the evening was NAC and a local church choir. I was ok with it knowing that Joshua would be performing in the second half. It was a huge disappointment. Yes his performance was in relation to his book, but the narrator could have been less vocal, and about 90% of Joshua Bell's music was played along with by the orchestra. I was left hoping that he at least would pay a portion of the solo that he performed in the subway - but no, he finished the book performance and left the stage without a word ever spoken to the audience - I should have set my watch to see how much time he played. The remainder of the evening was the local church choir. Overall, the NAC and the choir were nice, but it was advertised as a night with Joshua Bell - and that is misleading - it was more like a "brief appearance by Joshua Bell" If that was the case, I might still have considered buying tickets and attending - but I would have proper expectations.

    a beautiful Christmas gift

by genny11 on 2017-12-31National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

It was a lovely evening in every way. Joshua Bell was amazing, the orchestra, conductor, narrator and choir were lovely. It was tastefully presented, a relaxing evening. I loved the opportunity at the end to sing Adeste Fideles. A wonderful night of traditional Christmas music that was most welcoming. A warm ambiance.

    Wanted more of Joshua Bell

by Fan87 on 2017-12-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I enjoyed listening to Joshua Bell very much. I didn't realise when I bought the tickets that he wouldn't be playing more than he did. His time on stage was way too short. And he didn't talk to the audience at all! I was really surprised by that! Joshua, say something! Tell us where you are spending Christmas! Tell us something about your Stradivarius! Anything! I found that really really weird.

    Joshua Bell was good

by Anonymous on 2017-12-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I enjoyed the Christmas concert, The choirs were nice, the music selection was good, Bell is a phenomenal violinist but he only played two times. When the title saying Joshua Bell's Christmas with the NACO I was expecting to see and hear Bell play for most of the 2-hour concert. Frankly I was disappointed with the quantity. His quality is great but the quantity was poor. I go to concerts at the CTC or TD Place and the headliner plays for two or three hours. Bell probably played for a total of maybe 15 minutes. Maybe your title should say " NACO Christmas Concert and Joshua Bell will perform a couple of times". Sorry but I really expected more.

    Greatness unrecognised

by Areopagus on 2017-12-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Too little Joshua Bell (one of the greatest living violinists alive), too much Christmas schmaltz. Disappointing that the audience stopped clapping after Bell made just one ovation re-entry. He had just performed the Winter section of The Four Seasons in an electrifying manner unique and memorable - possibly one of the best interpretations ever. Yet folks seemed eager to get to the Adeste Fideles sing-along finale. So surprisingly, no encore from Bell! Sad!

Joshua Bell is out of this world!

by 100inspirations on 2017-12-23National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Joshua Bell performing live is unforgettable. The NAC orchestra was amazing, so was the choir, although they were a little too much. Almost felt like a school variety show.

He sure rang my bell! He was so fab to watch. From the moment he took the stage, I was mesmerized. I can only imagine the hours of practice.....brilliant. His parents should be proud!

The recital was wonderful. I had not seen Josua Bell live before and jumped at the chance when it popped up. He was truly inspirational.
