About

Kate Nash was born in 1987 in Dublin and grew up in northwest London. An aspiring actress in her youth, Kate studied drama at the London BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. A twist of fate in the form of a broken foot left her bedridden and while incapacitated she revisited some unfinished songs she'd written when she was younger. Convinced of their quality, she gigged for a while and published some of her material on MySpace, including the track that shot her to fame, “Caroline's A Victim.”

With the encouragement of fellow singer Lily Allen, Kate released “Caroline's A Victim” in 2007 on the indie Moshi Moshi Records label. Her second single “Foundations” was released through Fiction Records a few months later and was also an immediate hit. Such was the demand that her debut album Made of Bricks was released earlier than planned in August 2007, reaching No. 1 in the UK Album Chart and No. 36 on the US Billboard 200. Appearances at Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and Wireless Festival festivals followed, as well as on many TV shows, including Later with Jools Holland. She won a BRIT award for Best Female Artist, an NME award for Best Solo Artist and a Q award for Breakthrough act in 2008.

In 2009, she founded and became a director of the Featured Artists' Coalition, which lobbies for greater autonomy in the music industry for artists. She also created Kate Nash's Rock 'n' Roll for Girls After-School Music Club, which aims to inspire young women to become interested in writing and performing music. She is politically active and uses her fame and influence to raise money for worthy causes.

In 2010, she released her second album My Best Friend Is You which was produced by Suede's former guitarist, Bernard Butler. Her third album, Girl Talk, was released in 2013. She has collaborated with many famous musicians, including Kano, Lethal Bizzle, Sam Duckworth, Billy Bragg and Willow Smith, and she also produced Watsky's Hey Asshole in 2013. Musically she has been influenced by such diverse artists and bands as The Supremes, John Cooper Clarke, Regina Spektor, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Elvis and Janis Joplin.

    Kate Nash Rains On Toronto

An amazing show. Loved the light works, stage presence and her quirkiness. Her performance was unforgetable.

    Amazing experience!

by CAROLLL on 2010-11-15The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

Kate Nash captivated the audience with her amazing energy and down to earth personality. However I believe the most exciting part of the concert other than the infamous Kate Nash would have to be her amazing opening act - Peggy Sue. The audience was shockingly pleased with the bashful band who were very grateful to be loved by their Toronto fans and signed autographs after the event.

Kate Nash played a solid show!

by BobbiLeigh2010 on 2010-11-15The Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto

I've been waiting quite a while to be able to see Kate Nash live, and I was blown away. Her charm and charisma onstage was unforgettable. Her set was composed of a balance of her new and old songs aswell as an encore; all of them played with an incredible amount of energy and fun. I would definately recommend anyone and everyone to go and see her live at some point.

She started early (9:30) and was really energetic the entire time, she also interacted a lot with the audience which was nice/different. I was nervous after seeing the other reviews here, but she's totally worth seeing live if you like her music even a bit. And, hearing her preform songs live is a completely difference experience, I left the concert liking a couple of songs that I didn't like all that much from her album.

Was awesome! Started early, never known club show end 10:30 (usually start then). Kate Nash really rocks, good upbeat indie music!

    Hit and Miss.

by Marzipan on 2010-11-07Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I was wrong...not my scene. I like the old album and I'm not used to the new one. I'm not confident that she can pull hard rock.

Kate Nash with her incredible ability to entertain large crowds was again, terrific. A little bit of a harder rock/punk side than her last concert at the Mod Club but nevertheless, amazing! Her band was talented and the crowd matched the energy coming from the stage. All-in-all, a great concert!

    Charmless

by Anonymous on 2010-04-27Mod Club Theatre - Toronto

I'm a big fan of both Kate's albums, and from singing such charming, articulate and fun songs I was hoping for a show of a similar quality. Unfortunately, I think Kate was completely wasted and as such presented herself as the exact opposite of my hopes; inarticulate and charmless, all making for a fairly ugly spectacle. As for the songs, they were performed pretty well, save for opener Paris which was littered with bum notes. Maybe I expected Kate to be someone she's not. Unfortunately it seems to be that I don't like who she is, and that's my loss.
