It was our first opera and we both really enjoyed it. We were amazed at the quality of the voices and pleased to know that many of them were local.
The production of this opera was seamless. The acting was so great that it did not seem like acting. Both the soloists and the Chorus performance was above average.
First opera I had ever been to, and it was a fantastic show. The singers were passionate and absolutely great to watch. Easy to get lost in the story. Some hilarious moments. Great singing. For someone without much experience with the opera: a must see.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first opera experience and look forward to seeing more opera's in our future. We brought our 16 yr old son and even he enjoyed the experience. The young singer who played the role of Mimi was wonderful!
very good voices & orchestra we were not aware of two intermissions which prolonged the program =too long
The view was good as were the acoustics even from the balcony where I sat. As i sat there i realized opera is realy all about the singing and the fanfare. The acting as such was fairly stilted. The most damaging thought that I had was that i was seeing the triumph of form (singing, costumes, background) over substance. By substance i mean the plot (which in my view was thin, a theatrical love affair) and the depth of insight ( nothing very revelatory here for me). Give me Shakespeare and his pithy insights, or even better give me a good psychologicial or historical movie were I can participate more (mentally and emotionally)in the action.
Sorry to say that my boyfriend and I didn't enjoy this opera much at all. I think it had mainly to do with the play being stiff and artificial and almost silly. Some of the songs were wonderful, but weren't enough to offset feeling that we had wasted an evening...
The opera was beautifully performed on a well-designed set. The acting was well-choreographed and smooth. The story of La Boheme is rather immoral, but I can't hold that against the performers. Two thumbs up to them!
Excellent performance by two leading roles Mimi and Rodolfo. Joyce and Michael performed amazing together, and you could feel the connection between the two.
