About

LAURA SMITH IN CONCERT:

Canadian folk singer-songwriter Laura Smith thrilled fans when she ended a 16-year recording hiatus in 2013 with her fifth album Everything Is Moving, and she’s been captivating crowds on tour ever since with her rich voice and soulful live performances. Smith’s Celtic-influenced songs are full of powerful imagery, and she brings them to life at her spirited live shows with her vibrant stage presence and indomitable energy. In concert she plucks out folky melodies on her acoustic guitar and lends her robust voice to favorites like “Shade of Your Love” and “My Bonny”. Fans of authentic folk music and Celtic sounds won’t want to miss Smith as she serves up her tradition-steeped songs on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Ontario-born Laura Smith cut her teeth as a poet before beginning to play music in the ‘70s. She performed at coffeehouses around Toronto during the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, and in 1989 she made her recording debut with the album Elemental. Critical and commercial success followed with her 1994 sophomore album B’tween the Earth and My Soul, a Juno-nominated masterstroke that spawned the hits “Shade of Your Love” and “My Bonny”. Her 1997 album It’s a Personal Thing was similarly successful, producing several chart hits and earning her a Gemini Award for Best Performance in a Performing Arts Program or Series. She continued to perform during the ‘00s despite chronic health problems, and in 2013 she made a triumphant return with Everything is Moving, her first album in nearly 16 years. Since then she has continued to grace stages throughout North America with soul-stirring performances of her Irish-influenced folk favorites.

The world is a better place with Laura Smith's voice in it! The whole show was magnificent. It was great that Laura was able to introduce so many people to the Naming of the Twins. If you ever get an opportunity to hear Laura or the The Twins go for it!

An outstanding performance with no phoniness or glitz - just straight-up songs from the heart.
