Writing this review in English, though the show was in French (I am fully bilingual). Theatre in the summer used to be called, perhaps understandably but also somewhat pejoratively, ‘summer theatre’. But this fabulous production of the theatrical adaptation of the beloved French movie, Le dîner de cons, is topnotch on every level of critique. From the exquisite script to the nuanced, genius interpretation of the main characters (thanks to flawless casting), the play is as light, or as profound, as the audience wants to bring from it. Yes there were plenty of belly laughs to be had, but also awe at the impeccable delivery (especially of the two main characters interpreted by the always-brilliant Normand d’Amour and Laurent Paquin. All performances are sold out, we even had to purchase seats one in front of the other and that was months ago!
Finally a word about the venue, my second time there: L’Étoile in Brossard’s impressive Dix30 mega shopping mall. Access by car is easy, quick, both in and out of the venue. In spite of it being jam-packed, it was a breeze to navigate.
