About

What do Local Natives sound like?

If you distilled California into soundwaves and vibrations, it might resemble the sonic and spiritual interplay of the Los Angeles quintet--Taylor Rice [vocals, guitar], Kelcey Ayer [vocals, keys, percussion, guitar], Ryan Hahn [guitar, keys, mandolin, vocals], Matt Frazier [drums], and Nik Ewing [bass, keys, vocals].

Hills and valleys of six-string bliss, a coastal spray of neon keyboards, and sundrenched melodies comprise a growing catalog of entrancing and engaging anthems by the band. Based in Los Angeles, the group progressed their sound over the course of three full-length albums, Gorilla Manor [2009], Hummingbird [2013], and, most recently, Sunlit Youth [2016]. The latter received praise from Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, The Guardian and many more. In between countless sold out shows and festival appearances - including a standout Coachella 2017 set - they've graced the stages of Austin City Limits, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Late Show With James Corden, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and more.

That's what Local Natives sound like.

Fell in love with this band all over again

by Dani1234667 on 2017-03-19The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

played all of my favourites, nice blend of old and new. They were so humble and interactive! Had low expectations considering that a lot of their old stuff is very calm but they had a great energy! I normally go general admission but I got balcony seats this time to see what its like. Definitely wish I was up front dancing to their music!

Such a vibrant and unforgettable show.

    by Ruth4nn on 2013-10-20Métropolis - Montreal

-Originally written on my blog- With sweaty hands and trembling legs, I rushed towards the front of the stage, taking the empty front row space. Arriving 2 hours early before the show, I was surrounded by teenagers waiting for the 4 piece band from Los Angeles with eager anticipation. Opening with Seoul, a Montreal -based band, they're synthy, ambient and dreamy music took the lead. With 5 songs, they're groovy bass lines, flowy synths and dreamlike vocals were enough to bring the crowd to dance and nod in appreciation. I couldn't help move my hips and thrust my hands in the air when "Stay With Us" starting playing. Definitely a good band to start off the show with. As Wild Nothing started playing Nocturne, the crowd shouted and danced to their music. This quintet, formed by Jack Tatum recalled the new-wave sound from the 80's. As the temperature arised and the head nodding became more continuous, Jack's calming voice and dazzling lyrics spread throughout the crowd. This band surely left the crowd with a smile on their face. With sweaty hands and trembling legs, I rushed towards the front of the stage, taking the empty front row space. This band surely left the crowd with a smile on their face. As I waited with a lack of patience for Local Natives to come on stage, a smoky, bright dazzling blue beam diverged throughout the venue. The silhouettes of the 5 members brought the crowd into excitement filled with roaring screams and light shouts. As they started playing Breakers, the lights instantly turned red, revealing their faces. The crowd was so into the music which helped me ease-out and head-bang like a maniac. When they played World News and Wide Eyes, the crowd got so stirred up and shouted with all their lungs the lyrics to those two known songs. Covering Warning Sign by Talking heads with astonishing perfectly pitched harmonies, their energy was so contagious. Their touring bass player, Nik Ewing got really into the music and moved his body so perfectly in synch with the song. Taylor Rice head-banging and jumping on stage sure brought the crowd to roar. Ceilings, You and I and Who Knows Who Cares were those two songs that brought me to sway my hips, close my eyes and just enjoy the melodic guitar lines and magical harmonies. Ending the night with Sun Hands, I went mad. I nodded as if I never nodded before and jumped so high with so much energy (I almost fell on the girl behind me,and hit her camera several times... oops). This group of young adults started jumping everywhere pushing everyone, but I enjoyed that. The band's energy and lively presence didn't bore the crowd. No other band could have done better than Local Natives. At the end, I surfed on stage TWICE and got their guitar pick and water bottle, which I gave to my friend. I also got the chance of meeting them with 2 other fans after a good 30 minutes of waiting. They were really sweet and tried to keep the conversation flowing when we all ran out of questions. I also got them to sign my ticket and take a (blurry) picture with them. I surely had a great time and really hope any of you indie enthusiasts to see them live, because they are mind blowing. They sound even better live than on any Ipod.
