Los Angeles Clippers History

The Clippers joined the NBA in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves, an expansion team located in Buffalo, N.Y. The franchise selected future star forward Bob McAdoo in 1972 with the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA Draft. He was named NBA MVP in the 1974–75 season, and remains the only player in the history of the Clippers franchise to win that honor.

The franchise, led by new owner Irv Levin, moved to San Diego in 1978 and was renamed as the Clippers. The franchise's stay in San Diego didn't last long. Levin sold the team to Donald Sterling in 1981, and he moved the franchise 120 miles north to Los Angeles.

The Clippers began their best era of success in 2010, when they drafted Blake Griffin with the No. 1 overall pick. One season later they acquired Chris Paul in a trade with the New Orleans Hornets, and "Lob City" was born. They advanced to the second round of the playoffs that same season, recording their second playoff series win in 36 years. The Clippers followed that by setting a new franchise record with 56 wins in the 2012–13 season, which began a streak of five consecutive seasons with 50 or more wins and a playoff berth.

During the 2022–23 season, the Clippers, led by Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, again returned to the playoffs. They fell to the Suns in the first round.

I had an absolutely amazing time last week watching the Clippers and Mavericks. I do wish we could have our own team one day.

    Loved it

by ZEDFAM on 2019-10-21Rogers Arena - Vancouver

So much fun . Even though Paul George didn’t play it was awesome to see him come out and play . Would love to see NBA team in Van . Only disappointment was last few min security let fans down into lower bowl where we had tickets so they could see players , and blocked our view also making it a nuisance when leaving

    Expected more

    by R. P. on 2019-10-21Rogers Arena - Vancouver

It was a Dad-Son night out so always a good time and a great experience for my son, however, after going to an NFL game in NY and seeing the NBA games on tv in the US, I found the Vancouver game to not live up to the hype you would experience in the regular season at games in the US. It's pre-season, I get it, but it's also a promotional event in what could be a lucrative market in a fairly wealthy city. All the more reason to boost up the hype. But all in all, a fun night out and great to see Leonard in person after Toronto's big win last season!

    WOW! Entertainment was AMAZING!

by Fanaholic on 2019-10-20Rogers Arena - Vancouver

I am a Raptors fan and a KAWHI big time fan! Only real disappointment for me was not meeting him. Otherwise the entertainment, and not just the players, was above and beyond my expectation. Hockey should take notice! Fast paced! LA clippers struggled but just seeing the effort and all the plays was a lot of fun,

    Just Okay

by Ang on 2019-10-20Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Lasts years pre-season game at Rogers was better. This year the whole thing seemed way too orchestrated... the most time outs I've ever seen and immediately a scheduled type of entertainment would take over the court. Female emcee's voice was SUPER high pitched and annoying. Took my 15 year old son who loves all things NBA and he was bored. Save your money and travel down to Portland for a real game or just bring back a Vancouver team!!!

    Finally NBA Returns to VanCity

by VeeDiddy on 2019-10-20Rogers Arena - Vancouver

The Clippers game last Thursday was a typically Canadian heart-warmer...with lots of love and cheers for the return of Kawhi Leonard to Canada. It was great to see the King in person, and KL busted a few moves, to see that live was magic. Another great Canadian thing, the screens told us to cheer for the Clippers we didn't pick "sides" - the Mavs are also a great team. Didn't like so much the fan promo moments during Time-Outs and half-time - didn't like music playing after the whistle, I'm old school. We're there for basketball. All in all, fun to watch.
