About

M.I.A. IN CONCERT:

M.I.A. has led the way for women in hip-hop ever since her fearless lyrics and gutsy stagewear propelled her to fame in the early '00s. The Academy Award and Grammy Award-nominated rapper is known for pushing the boundaries with her live performances as she mixes jungle and world music with modern rap and electronica amid artistic stage designs. Whether she's performing game-changers like "Paper Planes" or spitting fan favorites like "Galang," the dynamic British artist will treat fans to her hit-filled sets on tour with A$AP Ferg and Elliphant in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam, M.I.A. got her start as a designer and filmmaker before deciding to pursue her music career full-time in 2002. Experimenting with beats in her bedroom, she released her 2005 debut Arular, which was inspired by her father and their experiences in her childhood home of Sri Lanka. The album was met with universal acclaim, landing her on tour with LCD Soundsystem and Gwen Stefani and launching her to a new level of stardom. Since then, M.I.A. has released three studio albums, including 2013's Matangi, been nominated for numerous awards, and collaborated with some of music's biggest stars including Jay-Z and Madonna. With a laundry list of hits in her repertoire, it's no surprise she made Rolling Stone's "Best of the Decade" list in the 00's and was named one of the World's 100 Most Influential People by Time Magazine. Back on the road, M.I.A. continues to push the limits as she rocks the mic on her upcoming tour dates.

    M.I.A was Amazing!

by LyneDesire on 2014-05-12Métropolis - Montreal

Her performance was so hype! The lights were out of this world. The music was loud and got your blood pumping. She has sick dancers with her who played with the crowd. It was a totally different atmosphere to be in. I felt like I was in a rave. I was jumping and dancing to the music. I was literally soaked in sweat at the end of the show. It was a great night!!! She even saved her two most popular songs for last: Paper Planes and Bad Girls. I love her!!!

    Bad Bad Bad

by JeanSebastien on 2013-07-22Métropolis - Montreal

The sound was terrible and MIA did a poor performance. I'm sad to see that from one of my favourite artist.

M.I.A. was high energy, visually stimulating and down-right awesome. She's one of my favourite performers to see live. Definitely see this woman live. She's incredible.

    lots of technical issues...

    by JC925 on 2013-07-20Métropolis - Montreal

I've been looking forward to seeing MIA live for a while. As expected, she delivered performance and visual-wise. However, there were obvious technical problems. The preshow guys took way too much time (they were on for longer than the main show!) and the sound wasn't the best. I still had a good time and would recommend MIA to people.

    Desapointing

by DesapointedFan on 2010-09-26Métropolis - Montreal

I appreciated a lot the previous show, for Kala album, when she came at Metropolis last year. But, this show, regardless of her latest album MAYA, was so frustrating... The sound was really bad, I felt like she knew it and it impacted her performance. I couldn't stay until the end. Background and lights were not amazing as well. So next time she comes to Montreal, I'll listen to her album at home instead.

M.I.A, still bringing it hard core

by Kroberts on 2010-09-25Sound Academy - Toronto

High energy, great tunes, great set - the girl has got a stage presence that can't be beat! Was a little confused by the presence of three "backup singers" wearing burkas, but hey I guess that's just part of the politically charged show that she likes to do. She brought a bunch of ladies up on stage at the end, like the last time I saw her. Glad to see she's still rocking out so hard after having a baby last year. Look forward to seeing her again, for the 6th time some time soon - hopefully at a festival, she's great at those :D

    M.I.A.: Killer Concert

    by Jonthepope13 on 2010-09-24Métropolis - Montreal

Crazy energy, the dancers were great and M.I.A. was amazing: she can sing and dive in the crowd at the same time, and that commands respect! The opening act was great and fit perfectly into the atmosphere of the show
