About

MATT ANDERSEN IN CONCERT:

Canadian folk and blues musician Matt Andersen is one of the hardest working artists on the road, averaging upwards of 200 live performances a year. It's easy to see why audiences love him -- Andersen is an impressive force to behold at his authentic live shows, and his virtuoso guitar playing and powerful vocals are matched with an equally impressive knack for connecting with fans. Whether he's covering classics like "Ain't No Sunshine" or performing cuts from his 2014 album Weightless, Anderson's passion and showmanship always elevate his material to the next level on his must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Hailing from the blue collar Canadian community of Perth-Andover, Matt Anderson got his start in 2002 with the band Flat Top. By the mid-'00s the budding bluesman was performing solo, honing the narrative-driven style he's become known for with extensive touring throughout the US and Canada. He made his album debut in 2007 with Second Time Around, following up with several acclaimed studio and live albums in 2008-09. He scored a considerable critical success in 2011 with the album Coal Mining Blues, which depicted working class stories from his hometown. In 2014 Anderson released the album Weightless to another round of critical praise, building excitement among fans for his continued touring.

    Matt Andersen is boss!

by L. D. on 2023-04-19National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Matt Andersen always gives a stellar performance and the show on Sunday, April 16, at NAC was no exception. He gave it his all which is a lot! However, I wasn't aware that there would be an opening band and I really did not attend the concert to see them. They were fine, but I found it went on far too long - an hour - and I became impatient to get on with the show I had come to see. Matt!!

Opening act was a great discovery. Engaging and great music. The main act that followed was amazing. The whole band was recognized and showcased. Songs were varied and great displays of musicality. First concert i have attended where i felt completely satisfied at end. Could not think of more to ask.

Opening band extraordinary. Sound quality very high. Loved the banter between songs - both the opening and main act.

    Better and Better

by Jeff on 2023-04-19National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Matt Andersen has made his iconic performance even better with an amazing band in the Big Bottle of Joy, but without losing his solo magic, big voice and amazing guitar skills. The closing number was spectacular!
