MATT SCHOFIELD IN CONCERT:
Jimi Hendrix once said that blues music is "easy to play, but hard to feel". Seeing British guitarist Matt Schofield live in concert, however, is an intimate, emotional experience that begs to differ. Schofield's latest album, As Far As I Can See, was produced with the intention of sounding as close to a live album as possible, but seeing him tackle his trademark kicky grooves in the flesh is a thrill unmatched by a set of speakers. Armed with an axe that seems to function as an extension of Schofield himself, the young but masterful bluesman captivates concertgoers with his impressive chops, unleashing a live experience that is truly one-of-a-kind.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Heralded by the Los Angeles Times as the "best blues guitarist from any country in decades," Matt Schofield has been stunning blues aficionados with his stellar craftsmanship for nearly 30 years. Born in Manchester, England, Schofield started playing guitar at age 12. After leaving college at 18, he ventured to London, navigating the city's vibrant club circuit and earning a name for himself by playing alongside Dana Gillepsie, Lee Sankey, and The Lester Butler Tribute Band. In 2004, he linked up with an organist and a drummer to form an organ trio that has since released five studio albums and three live albums. Schofield has been showered with major awards, including the British Blues Awards Guitarist of the Year in 2010, 2011, and 2012. His latest studio success, 2014's As Far As I Can See, earned critical acclaim as an ambitious blues album that evokes the same mesmerizing vibe as a live concert experience. Packed with infectious grooves and slick guitar riffs that rival blues greats like Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, the album is a testament to Schofield's unbelievable talent, which continues to grow stronger.
